Milan recall Bologna scandal as Di Bello will officiate Fiorentina clash

Marco Di Bello will officiate tonight’s clash between AC Milan and Fiorentina at San Siro. Although the overall record is positive, the Rossoneri have a recent bad memory with the referee.

Di Bello has been in charge of 16 Milan games in his career: 10 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats for the Rossoneri. As said, the overall record is thus positive for the Rossoneri. However, there was great controversy involving the referee in a game last season.

In the 1-1 draw against Bologna, which was played away from home, Milan were denied a clear free-kick in the build-up to the Rossoblu’s goal. Furthermore, they should have been awarded two penalties, meaning the decisions cost them two crucial points.

Davide Massa was the on-field referee for that game, but Di Bello was in charge of VAR and it was he that should have alerted Massa of the mistakes. It was especially frustrating for the Rossoneri as they had done a decent job despite a completely new starting eleven, more or less.

Milan will be hoping for better officiating this evening as just like the Bologna game, it’s a very important one. Stefano Pioli’s men have collected just two points in the last four league games and desperately need to bounce back.
