Milan’s record against English clubs paints worrying picture ahead of Spurs second leg

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will have to buck their recent trend if they are to secure progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Spurs tonight.

Milan will take a 1-0 lead to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Brahim Diaz scored the only goal early on in the first leg at San Siro but it is certainly a more challenging task that awaits tonight as Spurs will be backed by close to 60,000 of their own supporters.

The numbers don’t exactly shine on the Rossoneri either going into the game, as Milan have only ever won one of their 21 away games against English sides in all European competition (D7 L13). That came back in February 2005 when Hernan Crespo’s goal was enough to beat Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

In the last last three visits to London, Milan have lost by an aggregate score of 9-1 as well, so a trend needs to be reversed if tonight is to have a positive outcome.
