GdS: Milan’s Scudetto pursuit gets complicated after another decisive refereeing error

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan lost at San Siro again and once again it is refereeing decisions that dominate the headlines of the papers this morning.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) recaps Milan’s 2-1 defeat against Spezia by beginning with a recap of the events at the end of the game, namely the costly decision to disallow Messias’ goal that would have given the Rossoneri all three points as he whistled prematurely for a foul on Ante Rebic.

The paper describes it as a ‘very serious’ error at this level and despite the immediate apologies of Marco Serra himself, who immediately recognised that he had made the wrong decision, Milan cannot take comfort from any kind of direct compensation.

Milan had to throw bodies forward after having their winner wrongly ruled out and Spezia also managed to snatch a first ever win at San Siro through Emmanuel Gyasi, who was lucky not to be sent off in the second half.

There were plenty of question marks about the performance too though as Milan disappointed in terms of play and their attitude, especially at 1-0 up. Now the Scudetto race gets complicated as a chance to go above Inter was missed.
