Newcastle United have put forward a sizeable bid for Malick Thiaw, but at the moment it is not enough to convince AC Milan.
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Newcastle’s interest in Thiaw has been reignited to the point that they have tested Milan with an offer. It is believed to be in the region of €30m, but it is destined to be rejected.

Milan’s stance on Thiaw
The Milan management have not accepted the offer, and in fact intend to keep Thiaw despite such a significant offer. Massimiliano Allegri liked what he saw of the German on tour, and the Rossoneri’s current plan is to play with three central defenders.
Thiaw can play in the middle of a three-man defence or even as one of the outside centre-backs. He’s young and developing too, so the Diavolo want to cash in on other players, above all Samuel Chukwueze and Yunus Musah, who could have offers from the Premier League.
Fulham are the club most interested in Chukwueze and they have already made a loan offer, while Nottingham Forest are in pole position for Musah despite the rumours about Napoli coming back in for the American.
The next few days will be crucial for developments. While Newcastle’s initial offer fell through, it’s possible the English club will present a higher offer. Milan, on the other hand, hope to close the deal for Zachary Athekame from Young Boys this weekend.
There are also reports Milan want to offer Thiaw to Juve in exchange for Vlahovic. If true, that would be another smart piece of business from our portfolio managers.
to be honest i’d rather he doesnt go to a direct rival, especially considering we’d be doing them a favour on 2 parts (taking vlahovic and filling in their defensive gap)
I’m not sure that is so smart. Thiaw has Newcastle,Juve and now Leverkusen interested in him for a reason. It has been reported that Milan refused a 30m offer for him on Allegri’s insistence, as he would like to keep him in the squad. That tells you all you need to know about Malick , whereas Vlahovic has a high wage and is not as important to the squad right now with Gimenez, Leao & okafor.
A quality replacement for Thiaw , of which there are few on the market , would cost 40m.

If we can swap Thiaw with Vlahovic, plus we collect small amount of fee like 10m or 15m maybe that will be okay. Because we need to be hurry to preserve Coach Allergic with new rosters. Not like Fonseca which was panic buying and panic preseason training ended at the cost of UCL spot.
Sell him only if that money gets us Leoni. Too late for start fishing for a better CB abroad and integrating him to our squad – especially if we use 3 CBs.
Agreed. Am hoping now Jashari saga is over, Tare can focus on some other deals in the background, ie lining up Leoni/Scalvini/Comuzzo so as soon as Thiaw departure is confirmed, a replacement walks through the door.

40 mil is a no brainer imo…. just remind yourself that we have sold the best midfielder in the world for 55mil. I think we are too late in the window to disturb the defence but I don’t trust any of the defenders that we have to perform consistently so maybe with 40mil Tare can improve other areas with that money as well.
Not even in top 10 midfielders. Attacked midfielders maybe. He wasn’t best even in Serie A. Got the award just because another midfielder was MVP. Reijnders is a great player, but be serious.

The thing is though, outside of Conte, McTominay is a nobody again – bench warmer at EPL. Outisde of Milan, Reijnders is still quality.
I’m not saying Reijnders is the best ever, but he has been damn good despite all of Milan’s failures… put McTominay at Milan last season – would have looked like CDK. it’s speculation, I know.

Everyone is for sale if/when the price is right. If Newcastle were to offer 40M€ it would be insane NOT to accept it. Just as it would be insane to decline 150M€ for Leao or Pulisic.
Now is not the time to be greedy. Musah and Thiaw bring in €50 million. That gets Leoni (€35 + €5 million).

Allegri likes him. He has a spot in Allegri’s starting XI so he is not going for 30m. I’d say 50m or else Newcastle should start looking elsewhere.
Common sense is that it’s too late to sell off a key defensive cog ahead of the season start.
Problem is 40mil would negate all common sense at Milan if that offer were to arrive.
Timing should be a thing.
Taking 40M€ for Thiaw would have made sense in early July, but right now I’m not sure we could find a good defender. Also will this “new good defender” have time to adapt with us ? Defense needs stability and consistency.
It would definitely need to be from Serie A. That’s the minimum requirement but he’d also have to have the mental strength to be a starter for Milan. Not too many players can handle that.
Keep Thiaw, keep Musah, sign Hoijland or Vlahovic, grab a RB and get on with the season.
