PM: Milan’s Renato Sanches alternative could be Man City midfielder

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan could explore a deal for Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan if they fail to sign Renato Sanches from Lille, a report claims.

PianetaMilan write that given Franck Kessie’s expiring contract and the possibility of Tiemoue Bakayoko’s loan being ended early after a disappointing campaign, the return of Tommaso Pobega from his loan at Torino will not be enough to strengthen in the midfield.

Renato Sanches is the main target but the rumours of PSG’s interest will inevitably lead to alternatives being evaluated, and one of them could be Gundogan, who has been one of Manchester City’s most prominent players in recent years.

The former Borussia Dortmund man – who turns 32 later this year – embodies the prototype of the midfielder suitable for Pioli’s game. He can play in the role of attacking midfielder or a bit deeper as part of a double pivot.

There is no negotiation underway between Milan and City for Gundogan, but he could be a valid plan B in case the Sanches operation collapses. Gundogan’s salary is €7m net per year so he would have to accept a pay cut, but could benefit from the Growth Decree.

  1. Haha, so a poster on a website says “hey, maybe Milan could do this” with no reason or substance to it and that’s put on SM as ‘a report’?

Will be reporting on random Twitter posts next.

  2. So if Milan fails to sign their main midfield target Renato Sanches it would be because of high fee and high salary demands. How does it make sense the back up plan to be someone who has higher fee and higher salary demands?
I guess if Milan fails to renew Leao the back up plans are either Vinicius or Mbappe
