Report: The numbers behind Milan’s renewed interest in Sheffield United midfielder

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have reignited their interest in Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge and here are the numbers to explain why.

It was reported by Gianluca Di Marzio on Sky Sport on Monday night that the Rossoneri are looking at Berge again and Pianeta Milan have looked into his recent output in England.

Berge was initially pursued by Milan when he played for Genk but in January 2020, he moved to Sheffield United instead for €23 million.

He impressed in the Premier League but Sheffield United were relegated and he no longer plays in the top flight despite having the quality to do so. His value on Transfermarkt is now €16m which is in the budget for Milan.

In his last season with the Blades, with whom he lost the Championship playoff final against Nottingham Forest, Berge played 33 games between league and F.A. Cup, scoring five goals and providing three assists.

He also missed 11 Championship matches due to a thigh injury between September and November 2021.

  1. Could be a perfect signing, but I highly doubt an affordable one, the riches of the Premier League mean it’s in Sheffield Utd’s best interests to keep him there, unless he has some sort of escape clause in his contract.

  2. He didn’t impress, he was okay. If he was remotely good, another EPL club would have signed him or be linked. I can’t wait for the window to end so we don’t have to read this endless bs.
