Tuttosport: Milan’s revenues from Spurs game draw comparisons with Man Utd

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan raised a huge amount from ticket sales in the game against Spurs on Tuesday night, drawing comparisons with Manchester United.

As Tuttosport (via SempreMilan.it) report this morning, Milan recorded the highest box office revenue for a single game in the history of Italian football as the nearly 75,000 fans that came to San Siro raised €9.1m.

The crowd quite literally filled the stadium ‘at all costs’, because the average price of a ticket for the game against Spurs was €122, which is comfortably above what it would be for an average game in Serie A.

The paper adds that the record figure obtained in the win against Tottenham represents just over double what was recorded on average by Manchester United, who – in the Premier League – are the team who collect the largest revenue from the stadium given their status as one of the biggest clubs in Europe for decades now.

  1. Ac milan is still one the most historic and respected club in the world with the right owner and the right vision Ac milan can be goldmine ,

    1. … and in the right league.
Milan will not be a goldmine playing in serie A.
These are UCL gate revenues. Milan at most, even if they get to the final in UCL, will play 6 games at San Siro.
The article says that ManUtd collects half that from their home games in EPL, which are 19.
Milan from serie A home games probably makes a quarter from what they make in UCL.
For Milan to go back among the best, they would either have to leave serie A and do the super league, or serie A needs a total reform.
A club like bournemouth can outspend Milan for Zaniolo not because they have a richer owner but because they get a lot of money from TV rights just by playing in EPL.
As long as serie A is as it is, none of the clubs will go back to being what they were.

      1. So according to you, which league should Milan join? To be Europe’s elite again? Your comment is absolutely BS, and doesn’t make sense TBH!

        1. The SUPER LEAGUE.
The same league that some people said that it will destroy football, while they sit and watch EPL actually being the super league without the rest of the big clubs from Europe in it.
Does that make sense for you?
Common sense is not so common, I guess.

  2. But how much of that will go into paying the stadium rent? And do we get the F&B revenue? Probably not. Do we get revenue from midweek concerts etc? We need the new stadium asap.

    1. Milan and inter pays roughly 8.5 mil a year each and to my knowledge thats a fixed number regardless of cl or other tournaments so from where i stand that it seems like that match pretty much paid the entire years rent but maybe Oliver Fischer or someone else on sempre milan can clarify that ?

  3. Anyone who thinks that Cardinale doesn’t know that he’s bought himself a cash cow is delusional. This club is going to make him and his investors millions. So far this season, I think there’s only three teams ahead of us in terms of average attendance, and those teams are Bayern, Barca and Dortmund.
