Milan vs. Roma beats Taylor Swift: Big crowd expected for Perth friendly

By Oliver Fisher -

A huge crowd is expected at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia tomorrow as AC Milan take on AS Roma in a friendly match.

The squad touched down in Western Australia on Tuesday and they have been able to spend some time acclimatising to the new time zone. The players visited a wildlife reserve to learn about some of the country’s rich history, and then had an open training session yesterday.

We reported a couple of days ago that the club told us ticket sales were going ‘extremely well’ for the game, and Milan-Roma had already beaten last year’s fixture at the same stadium, which was Tottenham vs. West Ham.

Now, they have told us that just shy of 60,000 spectators are expected at the Optus Stadium, a great success considering that ‘only’ 48,000 tickets were sold for the concert of the very famous singer Taylor Swift in 2018, admittedly at a lot higher prices.

Milan and Roma will pay tribute to Agostino Di Bartolomei 10 during the match as  the two teams will play on Friday with a special patch to honour the memory of a player who played for both but who passed away 30 years ago.

Meanwhile, interim coach Daniele Bonera and captain Davide Calabria addressed the media yesterday, talking about what it means to have the opportunity to play on the other side of the world.
