GdS: Milan ask Romagnoli to more than half salary to renew – the captain is reflecting

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are asking Alessio Romagnoli to more than half his fixed salary in order to extend his contract with the club, a report claims.

In today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) they dedicate a section to Romagnoli’s future and a potential but seemingly complicated contract renewal with Milan. The Rossoneri have made an offer that involves the club captain going down from his current €6m net per season to €2.8m per year plus bonuses.

The player has understandably taken his time to reflect on this offer and is evaluating other options, but he has never closed the door to the possibility of staying with the Rossoneri.

It is also for this reason that the Milan fans are giving him a much less hostile treatment compared to what they have recently given Franck Kessie, who continues to demand a big pay rise to remain and seems destined to leave, going back on his words at the Olympic Games.

  1. The indicated figures does not sound right. Alessio is a good Center Back and amongst one of the best we have in Seria A. He has captained the side with pride and one cannot question his commitment.

I believe he deserves to be paid at par with senior members of the squad and he deserves a salary in the range 4 – 4.5M.

Why would you like to lose him for free and strengthen your competitors for just a few million?

    1. agree. It would be an absolute shame if we would loose him because we are not willing to offer him higher than 2.8m. Somewhere between 3.5 – 4.5 sounds justified to me. similar wages as he used to have before this salary increase that took him to around 6m which both him and milan agree on that it is too much. meet him somewhere in the middle please.

    2. In my opinion, Romagnoli is decent enough and if Botman comes, Roma will drop to the bench. The truth is if Kjaer hadn’t been injured, Roma would have been on the bench as third choice behind Tomori and Kjaer.

I believe Milan can actually give him $3 – 3.5mil, but I suspect they want to stop dealing with Raiola and other difficult agents. I think this is the issue.

  2. first question, if he was not captain, would there this kind of fuss? were his defensive stats better than Calabria’s stats in the last season? if he were to collect a salary based on his seniority, then Calabria ought to collect more.
the point is, he was given a bloated contract far more than his performances at the time. now, Milan are downsizing wages and all. he ought to make a sacrifice: kaka did, Tonali did. but, his agent is Raiola, that’s where the resistance is coming from. can any club pay him 4.5m right now, based solely on his performances? i doubt it. there is no basis for parity of wages all because someone else collects that same scale. Abate, Ambrosini and all former captains were more”committed” than he is now, they didn’t collect his wages. if he was an undisputed starter, he could argue his case. paying a backup player 3.5m is asking too much IMHO.

  3. I think it is fair enough to cut salary based on performance. 2.8 for a substitute is generous offer. You simply cant get 3.5-4.5 mil if the starting XI CB earned lower than that
