Reports: Milan ‘on the verge’ of sacking Fonseca – Conceicao to sign six-month deal

The game against Roma at San Siro tonight looks to have been Paulo Fonseca’s final one in charge of AC Milan, with Sergio Conceicao expected to replace him.

The build-up to the game was nothing short of bizarre as reports emerged moments before kick-off suggesting that Fonseca might be taking charge of his last Milan match. During the first half, he was given a straight red card for protesting what he thoughts was a penalty on Tijjani Reijnders.

As MilanNews report, it is likely that the red card he got was Fonseca’s last action as Milan manager and Conceição is ready to take over from him, a name already linked in the summer.

An agreement with the former Porto coach had already been reached before the match against the Giallorossi and now we are waiting to understand if there will actually be the official communication of the sacking of Fonseca.

According to Sky, the agreement with incoming boss foresees a six-month contract worth €1m net, with an option to renew for an extra year in favour of the Rossoneri.

Fabrizio Romano adds the following: “Milan are on the verge of sacking Paulo Fonseca. Final steps being discussed internally. Sérgio Conceição, ready to become the new head coach if all goes to plan.”

  1. It seems that Conceicao will be Milan’s new coach within days. There might be a serious buy in the January transfer window as well; maybe a DM. Gerry knows that he should forget his net positive balance sheets if a UCL spot is not reached at the end of the season.

  2. Anything is better than Fonzy right now. Conceicao seems disciplined coach with a clear plan. Has Serie A experience as a player. I just hope he won’t pursue 4231 or 442 as he did with Porto.

    1. Nothing wrong with 4-2-3-1 if we bring in a DM and with Benny back. Reijnders is clearly successful at AM. He’s literally carrying us right now, just like Puli was carrying us at the beginning of the season. The only other formation we could play is 4-3-3. Leao rules out 4-4-2 or any 2-striker formation. Maybe 3-4-3 is possible…

        1. If that was true why did we win s scudeto with a 4231?

If we get a quality AM, DM and a rb we can easily continue playing 4231 effectively.

For 442 we’d need to sell most of our wingers then buy new ones and a handful of ST.
For 4312 we’d need to sell all our wingers and buy an AM, a DM and a handful of ST

For a 433 all we need to buy is a DM.

DNA means jack shìt. You can always make a “new one”.
If we start playing 343 and we win a lot of titles with it, some idìot 30 years from now will be saying ‘we need to play 343, it’s Milan DNA’.

  3. While I agree with firing fonseca because let’s be honest. The players have never been behind him and we haven’t played well all season, if we’re hiring a coach until the end of the season it should be Mancini or sarri. Conceicao should have been first choice last summer and he is a decent coach and maybe can get these guys motivated again, but will he instantly change this team in a league he has never coached in?

Sarri or Mancini have serie a experience and are Italian. Would have been enough to get us to the end of the season and evaluate it then. But these group of players better smarten up with any new coach because this season already looks too far gone. I hope whoever comes in switches to a 4 3 3 and not a 4 4 2. We dont have the players for it.

  4. Should also sack the people who hired him. Or at least half of them. Sack somebody.
Can’t put all the blame on fonseca as a scapegoat

  5. Ibrahimovic needs to leave together with Fonseca AT THE MINIMUM. This management cannot be safe after bringing in Fonseca and defending him all this time.

  6. Yes. I am sure there are better people than MR. Fonsecs Also do these management people do they know. What a Soccer Ball look like

  7. A 6 month deal? And why would he want to take over this mess mid season. That being said, it abundantly clear Fonseca is unable to coach a club as big as Milan. The shirt is heavy and the coaching seat is always hot

    1. Paolo was always with players, calling players on the phone and motivating them. Ibra is always somewhere abroad giving interviews. Paolo was also not a perfect director with many mistakes made but he also put the foot down many times and the club returned to be a top 4 team each year. New management made more mistakes than Paolo did. I am also amazed no one gives any credit to Gazidis in recent years.

        1. Mr hippo 🦛, I doubt you ever supported Milan as you don’t even know anything about this once great club.
Saying LEONARDO was better than MALDINI as a director is like comparing BONERA to NESTA in their playing days LFMAO 😂.
What a pathetic and gullible person you are!

    2. Zlatan doesn’t even work FOR Milan. He’s just a “know-it-all” external consultant. Just take away his keys to the Milanello and ban him from the locker room.

  8. I would fire the whole managment right now ! The Best Option is not a new Trainer or Players, it‘s to Sell the club to any arab billionaire so we can get big again! All U.S people are pure based on profit and they would squeeze every peny out of the club to do so, so we dont need this Kind of joke‘s.

    1. Have you paid any attention to football in the last 10 years? Owners cannot throw unlimited money into clubs, they have to comply with their league and UEFA’s financial rules. Atalanta, Arsenal and Liverpool are just three of the high profile clubs owned by Americans and, just like our owners, they’ve spent heavily.

  9. WTF does this management have against Italians? Fired Maldini disgracefully & have incompetent Ibra as directors, never sign any decent Italians, keep appointing foreign coachs desprite of the avaibility of many quality Italian coaches. Milan is losing our few last indentity under redbird … sad 🙁

  10. Conceicao might be an improvement but I’m not sure much will change without big moves in January. The current squad is not built for a specific system. I said it last season, the team built by the new management won’t last if they want to win. Romero and Pellegrino are basically gone and it seems Jovic, Okafor, Loftus-Cheek, Musah, Chukwueze are on their way out. The jury is still out on Morata and Abraham but they need to improve a lot if they want to stay.

    1. The makeshift, hodge podge signings were bad. Pulisic, Fofana and Tijani are their only signings that turned out well. They needed more than one good signing per summer window to make up for the players we lost and out competition strengthening their sides or keeping the core of their stars together.

      1. I think we have to start with having playable 11 first…

4-4-2 will be hard for him to implement right away… his wingers are more like playmakers, and I only see Pulisic making it work there.

Chukwueze playmaking is questionable and Musah although might be good in RM role, his game sense and passing skills are something to be desired.

Leao is also 50-50 he can either be the one of the 2 strikers or LM, but his defending never improved that’s why Fonseca gave him more central role while Tiji played a makeshift LM role similar to Bellingham at Real. Maybe Liberalli can also develop as his understudy.

Also RB is non-existent role and a more prolific scorer is needed. Abraham, Morata and Camarda are fine as depth but we would need a pairing with Leao.

This also leaves midfield a bit empty with Benny, Fofana, Zeroli being only good options there and the latter is still too young. so 1-2 CM/CDMs are needed.

        We would need RB, 2 CM/CDM, ST…

more likely, he will try 4-3-3. Musah and RLC can be more useful this way, as well as our wingers.

We would then only need quality RB and CM/CDM.

        1. Leao – ST
          Tiji – Fofana – CM/CDM – Pulisic
          Theo – Thiaw – Gabbia – RB
          Maignan

          Morata – Abraham/Camarda
          Liberalli – Benny – Musah? or CM/CDM / Zeroli – Chukwueze/Musah?
          Jimenez – Pavlovic – Tomori – Emerson
          Sportiello/Torriani

    1. Who was a better candidate? do you know who else was available on the market?

Allegri, Xavi, Sarri, Potter, Ten Haag, Rudi Garcia, Mazzari, Tedzic, Moyes, Tudor…

name a better candidate… Sarri is the only exception but he always mistreats youth players and since our focus is Futuro and youth system, Sarri is out…

      1. Allegris etc wouldn’t have come for 6 months only. Better coaches (not saying Allegri is one but at least he thinks he is) won’t take 1/2 jobs. They want longer projects. Imagine Milan’s project with Allegri in charge. LOL. No one would have wanted that. NO ONE.

  11. I hope it not end like Amorim in United, sacking clueless Ten Hag, Amorim came, bringing hope in first match by winning, but then the downfall get worse

    1. Amorim is having the same problem Fonseca had and the same problems Conceicao will have, he will inherit a poorly constructed squad. The idea to bring in players via Futuro was a good idea, on paper, but they put the imbecile Bonera in charge. With a better coach, Zeroli and Barteshagi would have been playing well in Futuro and would have added depth in midfield and defence. As Ibrahimovic is the one who got rid of Abate, he and that clown Moncada should join Fonseca in the unemployment line.

      1. Inherit a poorly constructed squad? Maybe so, but Conceicao will do much better if he benches that fvker Emerson. If he does that, he will win me over instantly. And the results will follow too.

  12. I am happy that we finally got rid of Fonseca. From day one he didn’t have a clue how to play the game and the players openly said they didn’t understand him. They should have fired him after the Juve game or before that.
I don’t know what Conceicao can bring to this team. I remember he was a good player. I wish him good luck. Forza Milan

  13. It’s been revealed that Fonseca’s contract had a clause saying that if he got fired in the first six months, the club doesn’t need to pay more than his first year’s salary.

So now I understand why it was done so fast. They needed to do it before December 31st.

Apparently the decision was made (and Conceição was secretly contacted) after the 0-0 against Juve.

Conceição has already signed his contract. That shows how fast they had to act.

Although I have always said that Fonseca was a mistake and is utterly mediocre, I think they didn’t act fairly by throwing him to the wolves at tonight’s post-game press conference when he was basically told by the press that he was out, before the managers told him directly.

If they made the decision after the 0-0 with Juve, they should have told him then and there.

    1. I agree but we have shit management with no class. Ibrahimovich should be leaving with Fonseca. Fonseca isn’t to blame, he simply isn’t good enough but Wa offered the job and took it – who wouldn’t want to coach Milan? It’s the donkeys in charge that are at fault, Ibra, Furlani, Moncada and above all Gerry.

  14. Guess these guys aren’t completely clueless although lets be honest this has been a half a season wasted… Should have been him from the start if the available Italians weren’t an option.

I hope he brings a clear vision and discipline.

  15. 6 months? now milan need times to adjust to conceciao game plan, and when they start to gel or when things don’t go well ,next summer they sign another coach.. need another time to adaptation again.. if milan put a faith to conceciao at least they give him a longer contract. and funny how him accept those 6 months contract..

    1. They’ve given him a 6 month contract because the main idea is Klopp. That’s why they didn’t go for a bigger name after Pioli.

        1. He has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave, the Germany national team job for example. Clubs will approach him in the summer. He’s always spoken highly of Sacchi and Milan. I’m sure if they job was offered and IF he wanted to get back into coaching, it’s a job he would take.

      1. LOLOLOLOLO….Klopp????

        Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!

I get your a Redbird Lover – but didn’t think you were also that DELUSIONAL.

Ya ya ya sure we will sign Klopp and we will pay him (your famous) “200M” – LMAO 🤪🤡🤣

      2. Lol. Seems like things haven’t changed. The only clause he inserted is for Germany national team. So it’s crystal clear he’s no longer have the intention in coaching a club level. Just accept the fact. The sooner the better.

        1. He initially said he wanted to take a break. A lot of his burnout was due to coming up short against Man City. Ironically, after Klopp left, they have imploded and they’re going to be punished for breaking PSR rules. The claims that this management aren’t ambitious is nonsense. To get a return on their investment, they have to raise the profile of the club. A huge name like Klopp does just that. In any case, if Conceicao has an 18 month contract, then it doesn’t matter.

    1. I see you still don’t understand Furlani’s role, even after it has been explained many times. Furlani deals with the contracts.

      1. He has failed to get Mike’s signature to the extension. If he can’t even do that, then it’s better to sack him.

Also… Who the F*** sanctioned Emerson’s transfer and salary? He did. That’s unexcusable!!!

        1. He got our most prize asset, Leao, to sign a new contract. Maignan has 2 years left on his current deal so why are you getting hysterical over a new contract? Grow up and stop ranting like a child. There is little risk of losing our prized assets for nothing, which was the case under the previous regime.

Furlani doesn’t decide who signs, he does the paperwork. Moncada is responsible for Emerson (and the other garbage in the squad).

“The 25-year-old is a precise choice of Geoffrey Moncada who has been following him for years and considers him the ideal reinforcement for Fonseca and the right flank. After Alvaro Morata and Strahinja Pavlovic, Emerson could be the third signing.”

          1. Hysterical? LOL.

” There is little risk of losing our prized assets for nothing, which was the case under the previous regime.”

Getting 10M€ for MM16 on his last year is peanuts and easily avoidable by just offering him the money he deserves. You don’t need to be a banker to know what 1+1 adds up to.

Grow up and stop ranting? I’ll stop ranting when the management stops buying bags of sh1t for 17M€ and the coaches stop fielding them.

  16. Conceicao is good option. I thought that they hire some Italian like Mancini, Allegri or Sarri. but Conceicao also good option.

  17. Ohh.. is this the new scapegoat in the house?? Nicee.

The dude with a milan shirt profile pic said once, “they will correct their mistakes in winter break.” Is that the new “transfer” – the coach ?! haha

      1. They took action? Like after the season is basically finished? Why did they hire him in the first place, everyone but them knew how it’s going to turn out. Why did they behave so unprofessionally last night? Have you, RedBird fans, even seen how a club is properly managed? If not, do so and make a comparisson.

        1. Who told you I’m a RedBird fan? Just because some of us don’t rant hysterically like children calling for new owners and cursing management doesn’t make us RedBird fans. Why do you think they hired Fonseca? They hired him because they thought he was the best option from those available.

  18. Twice the charm, let’s hope they get it right this time. It’s really a gamble with these foreigner mid-level coaches tbh. But Fonseca had to go. Enough is enough.

Hopefully we can get someone who brings some serenity to the squad, and actually allows players to shine

  19. I’m not celebrating until it actually happens. Like some have mentioned I do feel a bit sorry for Fonseca but in the end he was just out of his depth – which we all knew except management apparently…

  20. Stupid to even consider Fonseca in the first place.

The smart thing, if true, is to give Conceicao a six month contract. We can evaluate him and still not be tied for a long time if it really goes south.

Cardinale can sack the idiots that chased Emerson Royal this summer. Those guys are to blame.

And upon that we have a 43 year old that thinks he is a lion. It worked on the pitch. Off the pitch these things are more serious and we don’t need an immature child handling things for us. Goodbye!
