CM: Milan continue negotiating over Thiaw but two alternatives are monitored

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are continuing to negotiate with Schalke 04 over Malick Thiaw but they have two alternatives lined up for if they can’t get a deal done, a report claims.

BILD in Germany are reporting that Schalke’s sporting director Rouven Schröder rejected the offer that arrived from the Rossoneri of €6.5m including bonuses and he has now decided to keep Thiaw – who is under contract until 2024 – so as not to jeopardise their chances of promotion.

However, Calciomercato.com report that the negotiation between the clubs continues, because directors Maldini and Massara have identified in the German U21 international as a profile in line with the technical and economic parameters shared with owners Elliott Management.

If the Thiaw deal completely collapses then the Rossoneri are keeping tabs on two other very young players who are similarly seen as profiles for the future. One is Maxime Esteve, a 19-year-old left-footed centre-back for Montpellier, while the other is the 20-year-old Italian Mattia Viti of Empoli.
