Schira: ‘Among Milan’s main targets’ – scout present to watch Lazio star

AC Milan had a scout present at Lazio’s game against Sassuolo on Monday night to watch one player in particular, a report claims.

Milan were linked with various defensive options during the winter transfer window, such as Thiago Silva, Axel Disasi and Radu Dragusin. However, the rising form of Koni De Winter and the lack of a real opportunity to strengthen meant the rearguard stayed as it is.

There has been a lot of speculation about a move for a central defender in view of the summer, given that the Rossoneri are almost certain to return to playing midweek European games too, and so will need to expand the squad side. Among the names linked most is Mario Gila.

Now, journalist Nicolo Schira has reported the following: “A Milan scout was yesterday night at Olimpico Stadium to watch the game between Lazio and Sassuolo to monitor Mario Gila, who is still among Milan’s main targets as new centre-back.”

The Rossoneri’s sporting director Igli Tare was the one who brought Gila to Italy from Real Madrid. Thus, it would be a reunion of sorts, and it remains to be seen what it would mean for the other centre-backs in the squad. Schira also said that Milan have the Spaniard’s priority, too.

What is interesting is that Milan play Lazio at the Olimpico on Sunday night, so they could get a first-hand look at him in view of a potential final assault.
