CM: Milan begin search for another striker – Benfica and Bayern duo among three scouted

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in the market for another striker after Zlatan Ibrahimovic went under the surgeon’s knife, according to a report.

According to Calciomercato.com, the fact Ibrahimovic will be out for 7/8 months after yesterday’s knee operation in Lyon has somewhat changed the plans regarding the position heading into the summer. Divock Origi will arrive to do his medical next week and to sign as a free transfer, but the feeling is he won’t be enough.

Directors Ricky Massara and Paolo Maldini are analysing various profiles in search of another striker. Ajax’s Sebastien Haller and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Zirkzee (who spent the season on loan at Anderlecht) were recently watched.

The dream remains Darwin Nunez of Benfica, but there are currently many ideas and various contacts taking place, always with the possibility of there being ‘some surprises’ on the horizon that may impact the choice that the management make in view of a crucial 2022-23 season.

  1. Please what ever CF we are buying let him be one who can lead us to UCL glory, realistic giroud ibra & origi can’t do it, I don’t want to die of age old without seeing Milan win the UCL it took me 11years to see us win the schdeutto, please don’t let it be another 11years my Milan

    1. None of us this platform ever believed in Maldini and Massara when they started this project…Please let’s stop all this..

  2. With the way our budget his and the rate at which our key players leave for free, you might have to wait for 22years gramps, the best we will be achieving is winning the schdeutto regularly like juve did that the Italian way

    1. @Milan10 Remove this from your name you are no milanista… Maldini will restore Champion League trophies to Milanello or else he will not be doing this. MILAN IS NO JUVE. Scudetto is nice little trophy we win real trophies in Europe. SEVEN (7) 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆. Ciao ciao

  3. ———-ORIGI—————-
    LEAO–DE KETALAERE—BERARDI
    —-RENATO—-TONALI
    THEO—BOTMAN–TOMORI–KALULU
    ————–MIKE————

Bench: Adli, Lang, Salad, Bennacer, Pobega, Kjaer, Florenzi, Calabria, New LB, Ibra, Giroud.

Bennacer and Lang would get plenty of playing time.

Out: Romagnoli, Kessie, Rebic, Messias, Ballo Toure, Bakayoko, Gabbia(loan), Castillejo, Brahim.

    1. But krunic is not at the starting 11, not on the bench and not among those that will leave what happened to him? What ever he deserves to be remembered.

    2. Team looks great besides origi and Kalulu. Origi is Backup quality that’s it. Need a starter. Kalulu should be starting CB. He has been decent at RB but a phenomenon at CB.

  4. I wonder if they are thinking of changing system?

With Kalulu’s progress and the imminent signing of Botman I wonder if they are thinking of a 5-3-2 or even a 5-2-3.

    …………………………Maignan……………………………….

    …………Kalulu……..Botman…….Tomori……………..

    Calabria…………………………………………………Theo

    …………………….Tonali……..Bennacer………………..

    …..Origi………………………………………………..Leao…

    ………………………….Giroud/TBD………………………..

    1. With that defense Timori or Kalulu could push forward in open play situation and Botman can go up when Dead ball situation arrive. Slower Calabria won’t be a problem defensively as he’s got Kalulu behind him. Theo can push forward whenever he wants and forwards can be more focused on attack as the defense are already crowded
      Nice idea

    2. Interesting hypothesis, but that would make the imminent signing of Sanches redundant, as well as Adli. TBH, they should just save the 30m on Botman and spend big on a world class striker and RW. Sabches and Adli can show what they’ve got at AMC, or switch to a 4-3-3. I don’t think we’ll see a massive influx of cash from Redbird (or Investcorp had they stayed in) as I think the focus of the major spending will be on the stadium. So with the takeover I think the budget goes from ~60m to ~100m max, not counting sales like Pqueta, Hauge and Leo Duarte, which could bring in another ~20m. So with ~120m we can get Nunez (60m), Berardi/Asensio/Lang (30m), and Sanches (30m). Then we’d still need cash to make Florenzi permanent, and a better backup for Theo.

      1. The big kicker is if they sell Leao for 100-120m, letting Origi take his place. That’s ~200m for transfers. Then all bets are off…

    3. I’ve thought for a while it doesn’t make sense to invest so much in Botman whilst Kalulu is playing so well unless a switch to play with a back three is on the cards. Makes sense to free Hernandez a bit more, at least as an option.

  5. But selling Leao means no CL ambitions in the next 2 years. Giroud will leave next year, so whole attack would have to be reworked.

Imho now is the time to risk it.
Buy Nunez and Sanches. It should be about 100m for both – not that much more than last whole season.

And now we have higher revenues

Hopefully expensive and not so necessary Botman is abandoned

  6. If Origi comes in and Ibra is given a new contract, then it would seem crazy to get a fourth striker in unless the plan is to play with two. That money could surely be better invested on the wing or in attacking midfield.

After this year, happy to put trust in Pioli to develop players like Pobega and Adli, but it would seem a strange choice to go for yet another striker.

Strange sales pitch too, come to Milan and be one of three? Not many decent strikers that would be an appealing offer to.

  7. Darwin Nunez are the ideal long term striker to replace Ibra & Giroud with Origi and lazetic as back up striker. We don’t need to buy Renato . Just Darwin Nunez, botman, quality AMF,quality RW and we are good to compete in CL. But first we must renew our key player like leao, tonali,Tomori, kalulu

  8. hopefully the journalist is trunken as usual. We really do not need more strikers then Giroud,Rebic,Origi – yes correct this are not the profiles which are playing UCL in spring, but having a 4th just for bench is stupid. With Rebic in front we did better then with Giroud!
    They will play 4-3-3 mostly
