Milan now have at least six absentees heading into Juventus game – the names

By Oliver Fisher -

It looked as though AC Milan might get through the international break with some players recovered and no further injuries, but now they head into the Juventus game with a list of absentees.

As MilanNews reports, it was known before the break that Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez would not be available for the Juve game. The former got a red card in the win over Genoa, while the latter got a yellow card which took him to the suspension threshold of five.

Earlier today, Milan confirmed that Marco Sportiello has suffered a problem with his left calf. The goalkeeper will have to observe a period of ten days of rest after which the evolution of his condition will be evaluated with a new MRI.

Yesterday the club announced that Samuel Chukwueze returned early from Nigeria duty with a hamstring injury and he is expected to be out for a month.

Their names are added to a list which already features Mattia Caldara and Ismael Bennacer, who are continuing their recovery from respective surgeries.

The presence of Pierre Kalulu, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Rade Krunic is still in doubt but there is positivity that they can at least be on the bench.

        1. I don’t…. In fact I’d rather he played once every three match days or so. You can tell he can’t keep up with how frequently Pioli is using him.

I would love to see Okafor as the 9. Leao/Oka/Puli – pace up front on the counter against Juve.

  1. Giroud must start this match..simple reason we need to win this game ..He has the vital experience and technical craft to help the team …sadly we have some injuries to contend with ..not surprising as so many international games been played ,but this often affects most teams not just us ..
I love pulisic / Giroud/ and leao up front .
This is not a game to experiment with .
We will win the scuddeto this season ..
I have never doubted that .

  2. Chukwueze the most expensive player among the new players has done to justify his price and just when the time comes to convince everyone, he came back from international duty with injury. So bad !!!

  3. The injuries and suspensions would have been fine, if not for the fact Sportiello is out. He’s looked very solid while replacing Maignan.

    1. I was very calm thinking that Sportiello would do fine in Maignan’s absence. I’m significantly more worried now that it is Mirante. Last time Mirante played he gave away 3 soft goals. I think he is even worse than Tatarusanu. Nava is supposed to be much better than Mirante and will be his backup but to start a 19-year-old kid for the first time with the first team, against Juventus, is likely not wise (could freak out and screw up) so I guess Pioli is right to start Mirante.

Chuk certainly hasn’t convinced yet. But let’s give him time. I still think he may deliver after a few months. I am worried that he is a one-foot player. I don’t like the fact that a right wing doesn’t seem to have a right foot. I think he is the one from the summer signings with the highest likelihood that he will be a bust, but I hope not. It is not uncommon for new signings to have a lousy first season. I think we’ve been spoiled that most of the other summer signings contributed right away then we get more impatient with Chuk, but this is not what usually happens so let’s give Chuk some time. Even Leão had a relatively lousy first season and now he is a star.

    1. Theo is hotheaded and keeps collecting yellows for dissent (something Serie A refs don’t do well with) which is utterly unacceptable since it hurts the team for nothing!

Pioli needs to have a hard talk with Theo and make sure he doesn’t do it again. I think Pioli’s declarations regarding Theo’s yellows have been too mild, too understanding, although we don’t know if Pioli said so just for the sake of the press, not willing to throw his player under the bus (which has never been Pioli’s style unlike that nasty Mourinho) and he is tougher on Theo behind closed doors, but I guess not because Theo keeps doing it.

Mister Pioli, please make this player drop this nonsense of yellows for dissent!
