Pedulla: Milan present ‘slightly improved’ offer to Romagnoli as Lazio and Juventus lurk

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have presented an improved offer to captain Alessio Romagnoli but he still remains likely to leave, according to a report.

It has been a strange couple of seasons for Romagnoli as he lost his spot in the starting line-up to Fikayo Tomori when he arrived in January 2021 and then regained it when Simon Kjaer suffered a knee ligament injury but has now lost it again due to Pierre Kalulu’s emergence.

His contract expires at the end of the season and widespread reports are claiming that Milan would only be willing to renew him on reduced terms.

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Lazio remain on pole to sign Romagnoli and their interest has been known about since last September, but there is no agreement so far and there will be a meeting in the coming days between his agent and their president Claudio Lotito.

Milan have ‘slightly improved’ their proposal to him, while Juventus are also in the background. With the right offer of over €3m net per season plus bonuses, Lazio will close.

  1. I hope he stays..
He’s still a dependable and a hardworking player.

The fans always expect a lot from him and that is understandable. He’s the captain and Milan standards for defenders have always been high (Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Thiago Silva, etc.).

When he first joined, he was being compared to Nesta, which was a massive exaggeration.
Instead, I see his career trajectory more similar to Chiellini. Chiellini became one of the best defenders in the world in his late 20s/early 30s, while gaining lots of experience.

  2. Disagree completely with MD. Romagnoli is a completely lacklustre defender. All he does is receiving easy balls from his mates which he re-delivers back to another mate, normally one whom it is easiest to pass the ball on, otherwise it goes all the way back to the keeper. You never see him going towards the middle half and distributing something tantalising like Bonucci has a habit of doing, precise deep balls, like Baresi did, not to mention Baresi’s forays to the front. This Romagnoli has neither imagination nor personality on the pitch. It is so easy to fool him. Were I a President of a squad such as AC Milan and Romagnoli would express an interest in my club, my question to him would be: “How much are you ready to pay AC Milan to be accepted by us?”. The only time I would employ him would be when I would be unable through injuries, disqualifications, disease to field the pick 11. This is a defender that slows down the action to a crawl, because one can actually see him thinking so slowly, prancing about, gets 10 metres away from midfield, looks around, looks back, prances some more and passes the ball to the goalkeeper. Job done. 3 million wasted down the drain. A ball-boy is more useful than Romagnoli. Please give this player away for free. The sooner we get rid of him, the much better. I couldn’t believe him when I watched AC Milan after I had stopped seeing them for years, since that time Galliani started collecting old had-beens who were not worth shit, like Ronaldinho and co, people who had lost condition and seriousness. The moment I learned that Maldini was coming back I was relieved though I still did not watch AC Milan play because they really turned up my stomach with their irritating dallying about on the field of play. Romagnoli is a master at dilly dallying around and about to no purpose. I still do not watch AC Milan. I am used to seeing AC Milan knocking Real Madrid out of the Champions’ Cup 5-0. Or hammering Barcelona 4-0 in the final in Athens, with three main AC main players missing. Compared to that team, this AC Milan is still a bunch of headless chickens. But with Maldini things will start improving and if he should prove just half as good as he was on the field of play (best number 3 ever in the history of soccer in the world), we will yet win in Europe. All we need is the Big One x 3 in the next 15 years to make it 10. As to Juventus, they could win the league another 10 times in that period. That is what Juventus specialise in. Getting stars on their chest. We prefer to have Champions’ Cups. At the present rate of development, I think we should get one in the next 5 years.

  3. He deserve to stay. He always with us in the dark era and never complained when he got benched. Even he agree to take a paycut due to his recent performance

  4. Milan need to keep him…he is our captain…he deserves respect..he is much better then all the traitors we had and who left…

  5. He has always been a great professional and provided stability at least in his position during the crazy years when Berlusconi was trying to sell the club. He had a boatload of talent but his growth stunted along the way mostly because defense play changed in football. Now everyone plays high press line and he struggles at that because of his lack of speed and nimbleness. He would be a better fit in a middle pf a 3 man defense like De Vrij or Acerbi under S Inzaghi. Wish him the best but we need a defender with different skill set

  6. Better for him go to Lazio for guaranteed starter spot. If stay in AC Milan he will become fifth choice of CB below botman,Tomori, kalulu,Kjaer thats Will be bad for his career. . For AC Milan are good too since club’ can reduce budget Wage by signing low cost Viti from Empoli ( salary 1m euro/ season) for fifth CB
