Milan smile as Dest shines at the World Cup ahead of huge Netherlands-USA clash

By Isak Möller -

Sergino Dest will play from the first minute this afternoon as the United States will face the Netherlands in the World Cup Round of 16. The Barcelona-owned full-back, currently on loan at AC Milan, has impressed a lot.

It’s been a tough season for the right-back, struggling to impose at Milan, but the last few weeks have provided a glimmer of hope for the Rossoneri fans. Dest, in fact, has been one of the best players for USA.

He helped get his side through to the knockout stages as he assisted Christian Pulisic’s winner against Iran. But in addition to that, he has really looked confident on the pitch, not afraid to run forward with the ball (which he does very well, by the way).

Today, he will be back in action as USA will take on the Netherlands at 16:00 CET. It could be a close game and Dest will be a very important player for his side.

Milan fans are obviously hoping that he can bring this good form with him back to Italy. There is a buy-out clause in the loan deal and the Rossoneri could end up exercising it, provided he performs well for them too.

  1. Dest is no defender he just got roasted today. At this point Pioli should try him on the attacking wing, could be a better version of Saelemaekers

  2. Dest is a more natural wingback/midfielder than he is fullback. He just doesn’t have the defensive awareness for D, but he has excellent instincts for moving the ball forward and getting into dangerous attacking spaces.
