Opta: Leao at the top – Milan star untouchable over the last six years in Serie A

Rafael Leao is one of the most gifted players in world football. However, many around and away from AC Milan feel that he could be more.

Profiling Leao is a really difficult task, and many managers have struggled to get the best from him. Even now, we are only just starting to see the best of him, and yet it could be debatable if it is his best level.

At his current rate, he is averaging a contribution every 90 minutes or so. In his 25-contribution season in Serie A, it was a contribution every 97 minutes. Despite this, he will end the year with a lower tally in Serie A, even if he sticks to the current rate.

Leao unreachable

Luka Modric has emphasised that the Portuguese has all the talent to be one of the best, and many are of the same viewpoint – if you do not already believe that he is there. Perhaps, though, there is a harshness that comes with Leao.

As the highest-paid player at Milan, there is perhaps an idea that even more should be delivered by the star. Yet, as Opta (via MilanNews) reports, no one comes close to him in Serie A.

Over the past six seasons, he is the only player to have registered more than 40 goals and assists – 52 goals and 40 assists. Untouchable and probably disrespected. Unfortunately, that is the issue with talent; if you do not meet the inflated targets set by others, the labels are quickly stamped.

  1. Hope you guys will not castigate him if he doesn’t play well in the future because everyone expects him to be 100% perfect but leaving the fact he’s a human. To me he’s one of the engine room of modern Milan and he will improve day by day

  2. One of the most consistent players at Milan. Also never injured. But 90% of the planet are re*ards so it means nothing…

  3. Such impressive stats.
Not if you do a little research and you find out that very few players, especially forwards, because of very high player turnover have been playing in serie A for 6 seasons.
Let’s look at the numbers of the few players that have been in serie A for that long or longer.
Lautaro has played one more season than Leao in serie A and his numbers over 7 seasons are 118 goals and 40 assists.
Hakan Calhanoglu has played 2 more seasons than Leao in serie A and he has 55 goals in 63 assists as a midfielder.
Mikhitaryan, another midfielder, who has been in serie A since 2019, just like Leao, 33 g and 39 assists.
Dybala during those 6 years, 56 goals, 38 assists, and that guy can’t stay healthy for more than 3 games in a row. No one comes close you said?
Vlahovic has been in serie A since 2019. 90 goals, 17 assists.
On the flip side, Pulisic in 2+ seasons have 27 goals and 22 assists in serie A.
Thuram. 2+ seasons in serie A, 30 goals, 20 assists.
Lookman has been in serie A for 3 seasons. 40 g, 21 assists.
Lukaku in 5 seasons in serie A 84 goals, 30 assists.
Probably 80% of serie A players haven’t even played in serie A for 6 seasons.
Go look at inter, juventus, atalanta, napoli, lazio, roma players and see how many of their players have been playing in serie A since 2019.
52 goals and 40 assists in 6 seasons comes up to an average of 8.6 goals per season and 6.6 assists per season.
Wow!!! So impressive and so underrated.

    1. No, it is 2 more seasons for Lautaro. If you actually compare their numbers Lautaro is a bit more efficient, but not by a lot. Of course if you want to lie like you love to you can keep up with that. Leao has goal or assist every 128 minutes, Lautaro every 110 minutes. And Leao will be at that level after 2 more years. His first ones were the worse.

        1. Also if he played with top CFs he’d have triple the assists. How many sitters Giroud missed. Same goes for Gimenez now. Put Leao in a team with someone lethal, that scores 30 goals per season and his full potential will be realised. He is not a world class finisher but is by far the best counter attacking player in the world.

      1. “Martínez joined Inter on 4 July 2018 for a reported fee of €22.7 million and he signed a five-year contract with the club.”

“On 1 August 2019, Leão signed a five-year contract at AC Milan for a fee of €35 million plus a 20% sell-on clause.”

“Of course if you want to lie like you love to you can keep up with that.”

        🤔

        1. Still the numbers didn’t change. How is Leao that close to Lautaro if he is so bad? 🤣 How can be in top players in goals + assist per 90 minutes if he plays gold every 5 games ( or is it 25? ). It is really simple, but not for you…

          1. Ignore the facts because I made a small mistake? What a clown you are. It is always the re*ards that hang onto the only thing they can.

          2. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Once again, question for the low IQ clown. How can Leao be in top players in goals + assist per 90 minutes?

    2. Makes sense.
If we just look at Milan’s squad,
Leao is actually the player who has been at Milan the longest, unless we wanna count Gabbia, who even though has been A Milan player his whole career, didn’t play much up until these last 2 seasons.
Then it’s Saelemaekers, who joined in January 2020, Tomori (January) and Maignan (June) in 2021.
The rest have only been at Milan since June of 2023.

    3. I do not know if you are supporting Milan or maybe Cardinale, or maybe Puli. I really wonder what is your purpose here commenting bullshits on each post about a guy who has been the central part of each success Milan have had in the past years. Question to you is simple, please write as a Milan fun what has broth you joy in the past years? What brings you joy today? Looks to me that you would enjoy Milan being 10th in the standings as long as Puli is our main guy… Its about right time to get our of here, maybe do some post on other team sites.

    4. Please ignore this guy, he is on this site because of Cardinale and Puli. Soon he will find some other team to support.
P.S. its really sad to see you here posting. This is a site for Milan funs, not for American propaganda.

    5. Keep quiet, The stats say otherwise no one matches Leao, you are full of this and we will never see you when he is performing

  4. Also last seasons the whole team was palyikg boring possetion football with not many chances created leao was by his own in attack most of the time with pulisic

  5. Anyone who needs to be convinced that Leao is a WC match winner should probably take up netball and darts. Football just isn’t your thing.

  6. Leao could be world class. I mean real world class. If he only hade that urgency about him and didn’t stop playing as soon as he was dispossessed of the ball or got a little tackle.
When he is fully determined he is strong and doesn’t let a tackle hinder him from continuing running. He is so skilful and has the physique but then sometimes he just lays down and asks the referee for a free kick instead of just getting on with it and win it back.

His ability to make something out of nothing is so important for us but if he wants to become a true world class player he needs to be more determined match after match. With Rabiot and Pulisic back he will have a good midfield behind him to make it.
