AC Milan remain interested in signing striker Jean-Philippe Mateta from Crystal Palace in the summer, a report claims.

Links with Mateta are nothing new. In fact, towards the end of the window, the Rossoneri were very close to getting a deal for him over the line. However, in the end the Frenchman did not pass his medical because of concerns over the condition of his knee, forcing Milan to pull the plug.

That particular operation has become the subject of an internal divide within the club it seems. Yet, as the end of the season rolls around, the Diavolo are still in need of a new striker. Given the difficulty getting other names, they might well go for a an ‘opportunity’ like Mateta, who will leave Palace.

Now, journalist Nicolo Schira has revealed that Milan do not consider the pursuit to be over and in actual fact they could rekindle it in view of the summer mercato.

“Milan are still interested in Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who was one step away to sign for Milan during the winter transfer window. The French player seems ready to leave CPFC after the World Cup and Rossoneri are at the window,” he said.

  1. Someone help
Me understand how and why Milan would be ok getting him now over the summer vs when they could have gotten him in December? Won’t the medical team still say no? Whats going to change? Why did we even refuse him in the first place if then we’re gonna try and get him in the summer?

    1. He failed the medical. Had he signed in January, he wouldn’t have played until March and that’s if he made a full recovery, which wasn’t certain. Now he’s fit. He hasn’t lost any pace. He isn’t exactly scoring loads of goals, but then he never did. He should be good for 15 goals a season in Serie A. His finishing is erratic, but he’s an absolute beast of a man.

    2. Back then he doesn’t properly treat his injuries, but after the saga, he did go under operating table
