Reports: Milan eye left-backs amid Theo uncertainty – Leeds and Brugge stars on the list

AC Milan must decide what to do with Theo Hernandez, and two names have reportedly emerged as potential replacements.

Theo’s deal expires in just over 12 months which means that a rather significant crossroads in his Milan future is upon us. Either the management must look to sell him this summer, or they risk seeing him walk away for free in 2026, without a renewal that is.

Two possible heirs

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) confirm that negotiations over a contract extension have been at a standstill for some time and the feeling is that the most likely scenario at the moment is the French full-back’s sale in the summer.

In the event of his departure, Milan already have two interesting profiles in mind to replace him. The first is Maxim De Cuyper of Club Brugge, a player that has impressed a lot this season and has been linked for months.

However, more recently the Rossoneri have also started to move for Junior Firpo, a player they sought in the past when he was at Barcelona. He would be available on a free transfer too, given his contract at Leeds United will soon expire.

Calciomercato.com meanwhile report that the idea of a move to Saudi Arabia is tempting Theo given the huge salary offer on the table. Milan, though, intend to sign a new left-back regardless of whether the former Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid player leaves or not.

They state that Firpo is back on Milan’s radar and there would be no transfer fee involved nor any squad list issue. He plays for the national team of the Dominican Republic, his native country, but has a Spanish passport and therefore would not occupy a slot reserved for non-EU players.

  1. Ok y’all want Theo gone….well these are what you are going to get …. and we know who out of the two is most likely to arrive

  2. Like I said, I cannot wait they ship Theo out and get us a Lefterson. And make Ibra do the presentation conference please. Peak comedy.

  3. Theo has played around 3500-4000 minutes per season the last 5 years. I don’t think fans understand how much that is. In a dysfunctional team.

He has no proper deputy and no defensive help from his winger.

He has been tired since the Euros. We all could see it.

We have to pay a lot to get a new player. We have other positions to prioritise.

    Keep him.

  4. Nobody really wants Theo out. He himself wants out and the club is also reluctant to renew with him. The issue is entirely between him and the club. The majority of us fans do not want him out (maybe a few of us do). But we do want to see Leao gone for good.

  5. Theo was never a good defender.
He could be good as a winger because of his speed, but as a defender he’s often misplaced, sluggish and miscalculates defensive situations.
Sell him and bring a real defender in the place

  6. we can just switch back to 4-2-3-1 or even try 4-4-2. use Theo to guarantee Jimenez stay and get big chunk of discount on Diaz/Paz/Guler.

Use Pavlovic/Bartesaghi as LB, allowing Jimenez to roam and whoever we bring with him.

If Thiaw leaves bring Comuzzo, if not Coppola will do at CB.

Swap Saelemakers (25M) for Baldanzi (Roma paid 12M for him), Cristante and Pellegrini (final year).
Swap Theo + cash for Jimenez clause and either of Paz/Diaz/Guler.

With minimal spending we have CB, midfield and winger subs.

All of this can be done without even spending RLC, Emerson, Musah, Teraccianno, Okafor, Chukweuze sales…

only Ricci-esque CM and RB are left.

    1. IN: Paz/Guler/Diaz, Baldanzi, Cristante, Pellegrini, Ricci, Coppola, Dodo

OUT: RLC, Emerson, Theo, Saelemakers, Musah, Teraccianno, Okafor, Chukweuze, Adli, Pobega, Colombo, Morata, Bennacer, Vasquez, Kalulu, Pellegrino
