Milan to sacrifice Romagnoli to Atletico Madrid in €50m deal and sign Upamecano – report

Alessio Romagnoli is heading for Atletico Madrid and will agree a deal to join them from AC Milan next week, it is claimed.

DonBalon (as cited by Calciomercato.it) report how  despite all the speculation in the Italian media regarding talks over extending his Milan deal, Romagnoli will formalise a move to Atletico Madrid ‘next week’.

He arrived at the club five years ago after the Rossoneri paid €25million to sign him from Roma, and on Wednesday he made his 150th Serie A appearance for the club.

Atletico know Stefan Savi will leave this summer and that is why they have set their sights on Romagnoli to replace the Montenegrin.

The operation is progressing through Andrea Berta, as the director of Los Rojiblancos knows Milan’s management well and this has facilitated the talks. Milan have given the green light to the sale for €50m as they want to sign two new centre-backs this summer, with RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano one of them.

Barcelona also closely followed Romagnoli but have ultimately waited too long to make an offer.
