Mike Maignan’s derby heroics are still very much in the headlines, and AC Milan are reportedly ready to make him a new renewal offer.
As La Gazzetta dello Sport report, the penalty save on Hakan Calhanoglu under the Curva Nord was the snapshot of the derby win, but Maignan also made fantastic stops to deny Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez too. He was a worthy MVP, and the worthy recipient of a kiss from Strahinja Pavlovic.

A whole new Mike
Maignan seems to have got back to his best: he is more reactive, more flexible and above all happier. It’s the complete opposite of last season when at times he appeared awkward and melancholic, making errors in big games.
Despite a sub-par season, Massimiliano Allegri fended off attempts to sell him this summer: he convinced the club and Mike to move forward together. Max deserves credit for keeping him, and Allegri himself pays tribute to goalkeeping coach Claudio Filippi for his work too.
The fact remains that Maignan has changed: he’s one of the symbols of the club’s newfound solidity. What remains the same, however, is the terms of his contract, which expires in the summer of 2026.
The club have attempted to reopen the door to dialogue. If Maignan wants to stay with the Rossoneri, the penultimate proposal will still be valid. On the table is a contract extension for another two or three seasons at €5m net per year (up from €4m).
This represents a significant salary increase from the current €3.2m, despite his advancing age. It is unusual generosity (at least in relation to Milan’s usual stance) for a player who has already turned 30.
This Maignan, however, deserves it. This Maignan who – for the same reasons mentioned above – has attracted the attention of foreign clubs, above all the Premier League. However, Juventus are also lurking.
Milan reached a verbal agreement to extend Maignan’s deal at the start of the year, before they pulled it back as his form declined and it became obvious there would be no European football in 2025-26. That was followed by a period of intense coldness, with the club and the goalkeeper looking elsewhere.
Rekindling the bond remains very difficult, but an attempt will be made nonetheless. The captain’s armband on his arm is a sign of a thaw. Mike has a unique personality, and one goal more fixed than others: he wants to win. Could he change his mind? It is ‘difficult, but not entirely impossible’.

I seriously hope we can renew his contract and I personally wouldn’t mind an extension lasting beyond 3 years as goalkeepers tend to play for a longer time than most players does. There might be a lot of goalkeepers in the market but besides of Maignan being a top keeper it would also take away money from a potential investment in a great striker and other areas of the squad so ideally Maignan stays for years to come while letting Torriani becomes his understudy and the second choice or at least is loaned out for some years getting consistent minutes in either Serie B or A.
Too late. He is gone. Stupid management. He will go to Premier league and earn three times more.

Haha Jim sorry got to roast you on this one. You stuck in 2015? The last time Chelsea were in the knockout rounds of the CL was before the pandemic. In the last 5 seasons Milan have been more of a contender than Chelsea. This year is a little wonky with how Liverpool and Man city have started. The only thing that makes Chelsea a competitor in the EPL is about 6 clubs are significantly underperforming and who knows how long that will last. Chelsea does have spending power so there’s always that, who knows maybe this is the years Chelsea reverses their decade of decline but Chelsea or more like EPL dark horses and CL qualifiers then out and out contenders.
I think they need to start at 6 million to compensate for being stupid and take it from there.
He can get much more if he goes to PSG. Especially if he goes for free and gets a huge sign-on.

I wonder if anyone has asked Mike if he needs a change of scenery? At the end of the season he will have been at Milan for 5 years… Might be ready to move on.
We have had Mike for 5 years jus be glad he stayed that long tbh,not like we were the best the last couple seasons yet he still stayed. So not suprised if he does leave to chelsea fresh new scenery in a top premier leauge team where he will get paid more on top of all that. Plus Chelsea will have a much stronger team than us right now and in the next couple of seasons so its a smart choice . (not saying we wont do well lol FORZA MILAN)
Allegri did more than just bring in Claudio Filippi for Mike. He brought in Rabiot and Nkunku, his youth PSG bosom buddies, to the club. Rabiot asked Mike about the club before joining, and got a positive response.
Doubt Mike would leave his buddies hanging after convincing them to join him here.
