CorSport: Milan turn to Chelsea again in pursuit of missing defensive piece – the target

AC Milan’s defensive record has been their main strength this season, and there is the possibility of further reinforcement in January.

Fikayo Tomori, Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic are the pillars of the three-man back line and at the moment each of them look immovable. However, with the winter window just around the corner, it cannot be ruled out that another piece is added to the department.

Lack of depth

At the moment, the only replacement is Koni De Winter, and he has offered mixed performances. David Odogu – acquired at the end of August for around €10m – has yet to get even a single minute of Serie A action, and could be loaned out.

Such a small bench could become a problem in the event of injuries or necessary rotation, which is why the Milan management are evaluating targeted signings without excessive fees needed. According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), a new idea has emerged.

Chelsea central-back Axel Disasi is once again being considered as a viable option. The 27-year-old has played very little this season, and was evaluated by Milan in the summer. A move in January could be facilitated by the good relationship between the two clubs.

Thiago Silva is also a possibility, as he’s considering a final European experience. In recent days, there have been discussions with the Brazilian’s entourage, but Milan currently don’t seem convinced. In addition to his age, there are doubts about whether he would accept being a back-up.

Milan’s idea is clear though: to intervene in the market with a reliable defender as an alternative, ready to come in to support the starters if needed, without revolutionising a defensive line that is currently working very well.

  1. AC Milan and Chelsea must do some shady money laundering or something. Both owned by Americans and keeps dealing with eachother 24/7.
Kidding aside I really doesn’t know this player well enough to say if it would be a good move or not but I can see that the player would arrive completely out of form as he isnt even registered for them so can we please look elsewhere than France or Chelseas trashcan.

  2. Disasi’s not match fit and hasn’t played in ages. He’ll need the rest of the season to get back up to speed. Milan DON’T need another Nkunku and I actually think there’s something to the idea that something shady is going on between these 2 clubs.
Silva is still okay apparently, but get a younger defender, someone who can run.

    1. Who knows whats up and down in this. We have done some great deals but also some of more questionable kind, either way it is a bit weird that we always returns to them buying their unwanted players.

  3. Disasi is awful… Guy is playing with the chelsea U21 team for a reason, rather bring back a 41 yr old Thiago silva. Also why do we always land our hands on chelsea rejects?
