CM: Milan may sign two centre-backs in the summer – the truth regarding Mbemba links

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan did not sign a new centre-back in the January transfer window which has forced them to focus their efforts on the summer, but Chancel Mbemba is not likely to be one of the names considered.

According to Calciomercato.com, directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara tried to sign Sven Botman from Lille but were met by a wall repeatedly, yet instead of moving on to another target they preferred to continue working on signing him ahead of the window reopening at the end of the season.

Nonetheless, Alessio Romagnoli has not yet accepted the renewal offer from Milan and thus could say goodbye at the end of the season, which would mean that Milan are likely to go after two centre-backs rather than just one.

The report mentions the recent talk about an advanced negotiation for Chancel Mbemba of Porto who is on a deal which expires at the end of the season, though it appears his profile is not one which matches up with what the management want.

The idea remains the same: to sign an established central defender like Botman or Bremer and if needed a young player in that role with good potential, such as Malick Thiaw of Schalke, Maxime Esteve of Montpellier and Mattia Viti of Schalke 04.
