Milan’s updated Coppa Italia path as Inter and Napoli surprisingly crash out

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan faced the prospect of yet another Coppa Italia derby against Inter, this time in the semi-finals, until last night’s developments at San Siro.

Gianluca Di Marzio talks about the teams that are still in the running to raise the 2023-24 Italian Cup to the skies. Now that we are in the last 16 stage of the competition, things are beginning to heat up as the seeded teams come into the competition.

The first to take to the field were Lazio, who won 1-0 against Genoa thanks to Matteo Guendouzi’s goal. Fiorentina also joined the Biancocelesti in the quarter-finals after winning against Parma on penalties.

The first certain match of the quarter-finals is Bologna-Fiorentina, with the Rossoblu having eliminated Inter last night at San Siro with two goals in extra-time. Meanwhile Napoli are also out after being demolished 4-0 at home by Frosninone.

Below is the full list of last 16 games, including those still to be played:

➤ Lazio 1-0 Genoa
➤ Fiorentina 6-3 Parma (after penalties)
➤ Napoli 0-4 Frosninone
➤ Inter 1-2 Bologna.
➤ Milan-Cagliari – Tuesday 2 January 2024 at 21:00 CET
➤ Atalanta-Sassuolo – Wednesday 3 January 2024 at 18:00 CET
➤ Roma-Cremonese – Wednesday 3 January 2024 at 21:00 CET
➤ Juventus-Salernitana – Thursday 4 January 2024 at 21:00 CET

The next matches are scheduled for the first week of January, with Milan taking on Cagliari at home to try and book a place in the last 16.

At the moment the most likely path for Milan, if they were to beat Cagliari, is to face Atalanta in the quarter-finals and then one of either Bologna or Fiorentina in a two-legged semi-final, with the likes of Roma, Lazio and Juventus on the other side of the bracket.

  1. If we get a decent mercato in January and handle the injury situation we could have a decent shot at both the Coppa Italia and Europa league. Thats a lot of ifs but I think we can do it. Might as well dream big!

  2. Reijdners said the season is not over and i agreed with him. But then some people in here said Reijnders is wrong because Inter will have a walk in the park in all competition as if they gonna keeps winning until the end of the season. But lo and behold, Inter just got beaten by Bologna and got out from Coppa :))

And for anyone who dowplayed our win against Frosinone, you should be glad that right now you’re not Napoli fans lol.

  3. Yes we must dream big ..we could win the coppa Italian cup and win the Europa cup ..
If we did ,,then that would be a huge achievement.
It’s not impossible as we have a team capable of doing just that !

  4. Lol it’s almost like I’m a sorcerer haha 🤣. A certain acronymed commenter on Sempre said in his predictions that Copa might be the only trophy to get this year lol 😅
That being said and seeing how those two crashed out, we should be very very careful

(PS my prediction was also crash out of UCL group stages and Europa for a few more rounds)
