Moretto: Milan ‘very close’ to signing Athekame – when a deal could be finalised

There has been a lot of movement this summer by AC Milan. However, the key moves could be in the next few weeks.

It has been a good summer for Milan already. They have made progress on the team and there is room to continue that. However, there is still a need to finish the project for Massimiliano Allegri’s team.

He has, as reports say, a 70% complete team so far. So, work needs to be done with time running out. Though it seems like more can be done shortly.

Another step

According to reports, the Rossoneri have quickly stepped up their interest in Zachary Athekame, and after a first bid on Friday, another could arrive shortly. Fabrizio Romano stated that the clubs hope to find a ‘middle ground’ and it could be done soon.

News has also arrived from one of his colleagues this afternoon. Matteo Moretto (via Milan Matters) writes that the right-back is ‘very close’, and there is a wish to complete a deal as early as Tuesday this week. Should this be done, you would imagine he would be able to play against Leeds and/or Chelsea this weekend.

Considering the situations elsewhere, being active and closing a deal so quickly can only be a good thing.

  1. Zanotti, Zappa, zanoli !!! All young, affordable…..why not look at them instead of this unknown random foreigner, better still use our own players and save the money, we have jimenez, Saelemakers, Terraciano, Magni

  2. I would rather see Magni given chance…

we have currently 70M and additional 60M could come after the sales of Musah, Chukwueze, Adli, Bennacer, Terraciano…

where the f does this money go?! ik we have no UCL but why does the club have to pay every time for the mistakes of these fools?!

    1. Dodo, Vlahovic, Guerra are more than realistic; why f up a vital role like RB?!

even this trio would barely go over 60M… where the f is that 70M?

  3. I trust tare. From videos and what’s available he seems like a talented player. Hypothetically had mid table team like Udinese or Torino signed him and he had a solid year, he would be worth 25m. I guess club has taken a risk, we will reserve the right and decide if the gamble was worth it or not. At face value there’s more upside than downside. Jimenez is now our starting RB, he has time to learn and grow.

    1. Exactly. Jimenez plays really well and one can only image that Real will excercise the buyback clause at 2026 for 12m euro… unfortunately.. so maybe in 1 year Athekame will do so well and evolve good enough to be our next year starting rightback. Otherwise we keep athekame as 2nd priority backup and buy a quality RB(maybe doue). For now tho, this season, we are good.

      1. Against any good left winger he is a liability defensively. Saelemakers is way better at defending. We aren’t even talking about very good or better wingers, just above average.

  4. Cool….a player no one has heard up until now. I actually like these kinds of signings. Hopefully the scouting work pull thru. AND hope that they give players time. Management lack patience severely…and also competence

    1. Low risk , high reward if he success. I never heard this player too. The reason they signing new RB because they cannot develop jimenez too much due to buy back clause so jimenez just back up until RM losing buy back

  5. This is a nobody at 20 years old… milan has the time and patience for a player like him to grow up and mature and make mistakes???

    Since when?!

    1. I wouldn’t say he is a nobody if he is going to play for Milan but I can say you are a nobody and that’s a fact.
