Tuttosport: Milan scout Empoli starlet during Inter game with three Italian talents eyed

By Mitchell Wilks -

Empoli’s Mattia Viti was watched closely by Milan during their Coppa Italia bout against Inter on Wednesday, according to a report.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) claim that the Rossoneri followed the 19-year-old central defender ‘with interest’ as Empoli forced Inter to extra time in the cup, and he is one of three young Italians being observed.

The report states that Milan are also keeping tabs on Frosinone’s Federico Gatti and Hellas Verona’s Nicolo Casale, with club management keen to bolster the defence before the January transfer window closes but also with an eye to the future.

Milan have been repeatedly linked with higher profile names such as Eric Bailly, Sven Botman and Japhet Tanganga by various sources but with them preferring a loan deal to cover for Simon Kjaer’s absence, turning to a younger signing has been touted as a plan B.

Viti is capped at U20 level for Italy and made his debut for Empoli in 2020, and has impressed in Sere A this season.
