Right now, AC Milan are waiting for Luka Modric to renew his deal with the club, but he’s not waiting around.
After the season – and summer – which he has had, Modric would be perfectly entitled to a summer of rest, or at least a few weeks. However, the midfielder is not allowing himself to really switch off.

Modric remains in training
As Gazzetta dello Sport writes this morning, the midfielder has never stopped running in his career and he won’t stop now. So, despite the fact that he is on ‘holiday’ with his family, he is not relaxing.
Indeed, the midfielder is still working and training before heading back to Milano this summer. He wants to take care of his body and ‘maintain a steady pace’ ahead of next season, even if his role is set to change.
For Ruben Amorim, he will be a luxury reserve, for want of a better way of putting it. He will play minutes, of course, but it will be more of a ‘part-time’ thing, rather than a key player situation. After last season, he certainly deserves a less strenuous year.
A renewal is expected soon, and whilst he will report for pre-season a little later than his teammates, he won’t be returning in bad shape. That simply isn’t Modric.
The only problem Modric’s return poses is the halt in Jashari’s development.
Hey Modric, if you willing to play at top level every time forever, you may want to inject your self with HGH..! It will make your muscles and bones stronger then iron man!! It is syntetics but its legal, right?
The only thing getting in the way of Jashari’s development is Jashari. Jashari’s performances were awful. His lack of game time had nothing to do with Modric. He had a ton of chances to prove he can be a viable alternative to Modric, and each time he entered the pitch, he proved he does not possess the quality needed. Nothing to do with Modric, its a lack of quality. That clear lack of quality carried over to the WC as well. Nowhere near good enough. Modric at 41 offers 10x more quality.
A true replacement for Modric would be someone at the level of De Jong, Alexis MacAllister, Tonali, Barella, Fabian Ruiz, Zubimendi etc…not Jashari, he is not in that class. He is not a suitable replacement for Modric. He is not going to control anyone’s midfield.
