AC Milan are looking at potential centre-back options for the future and they are in talks over Saba Goglichidze, according to a report.
On Saturday night, news emerged from Gianluca Di Marzio that Milan had begun negotiations over Goglichidze, who has impressed with Empoli and could find himself making a big move at the age of just 20.
According to Calciomercato.com, the match at San Siro on November 30th was the ‘turning point’ when Goglichidze was the protagonist of an impressive performance despite Empoli’s 3-0 defeat against Milan.
He was the highest rated by La Gazzetta dello Sport among the Empoli ranks, for winning the battle with Rafael Leao. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Geoffrey Moncada were impressed by the Georgian and believe he is a profile to focus on for the future.
Luca Puccinelli, Goglichidze’s agent, has been in contact with the Rossoneri management for days. The club are evaluating whether to open negotiations with Empoli, who they have done plenty of business with in the past.
At the moment the directors are focused on signing a forward but could then pivot to a defender. Empoli, for their part, would like to keep their talent until the end of the season so a welcome solution would be a permanent sale then a six-month loan back to the Tuscans.
Milan are also joined by Juventus in the race, though. Cristiano Giuntoli has been inquiring in recent days about the situation of the defender who arrived in Italy 12 months ago from Torpedo Kutaisi. His future will be defined in the next few days, but he is ‘ready to make the jump’.
I thought we had some young centre back we bought from Argentina some seasons ago. Unless it’s for the futuro team, I don’t see why they’re trying to buy a new cb. Well it’s the Milan management afterall.
This guy is a must sign. Hell of a player and Serie A ready.
As Georgian would really love to see him in Milan jersey, good thing he’s reliable CB and can play on the right too and is already adapted to Serie A. The problem is we have a lot of CBs and if rumors are true about Walker plenty of RBs too. So I just hopes he will get a chance to prove himself.l
Better than Mosquera.
Based on what?
Eye test
We already signed a CB this summer (although he isn’t quite there yet) and we have 2 reliable CBs + 1 CB that the coach seems to prefer for now.
We don’t need another CB right now.
We have bigger priorities, our midfield is very shallow, Reijnders and Fofana are being run to the ground and we might make use of a deadly striker (although unlikely to be here by winter). Heck, considering the problem with our fullbacks, I’d even take a RB (Walker) or a LB over CB right now.
