Tuttosport: Milan want an upgrade on Messias and Saelemaekers – the No.1 target

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in the market for a right winger who will guarantee a higher level of quality and one name sticks out above all, according to a report.

As Tuttosport reports (via MilanNews), Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are on the lookout for a winger who can guarantee more quality and above all more goals than Junior Messias and Alexis Saelemaekers can, given that the duo combined have four less goals than Rafael Leao this seaosn.

The internal favourite at Milan is Domenico Berardi of Sassuolo, who has hit double figures in league goals for the fifth straight season in Serie A as he stands on 12 goals for the current campaign, however this is likely to be reflected in his asking price.

Other factors will be at play such as the winger’s personal preference and how much budget the Rossoneri have, but it is a track to watch for developments on.

  1. Oh come on..you said you want to put hefty budget in completing every position in the team, didn’t you. Now it’s time to complete it.

  2. Domenico Berardi is overrated overpriced and will be a flop at top team squad same Sensi did at Inter Milan. We all saw at National Team dur6 Euros; nothing special about this player. Kind of players make it better on average team and become flop playing at higher team.
Pioli make Alexis Saelemaekers more of defensive minded winger rather than both defensive and attacking winger; cos his really bad in attacking phase.
Junior Messias has both defensive and attacking mindset but he needs time to fully integrate himself to the team; don’t judge him for one season. Leao spent more years to get to his stage now.

    1. Leao is 22 while Messias is 30. Leao came to us when he was young. Messias has literally got no room for greater results. We would be lucky to even get results similar to this season from him. He’s most likely going to decline. And Messias defensively is not really good. Offensively too he lacks pace. Dribbling is okay.

If you are comparing Messias to Leao then you are not in the right mind.

Now yes your point. about Berardi makes sense. But I am pretty sure Berardi for us will produce more than Messias and Alexis combined. He’s still in his prime and these are going to be some of his best years.

    2. and if Messias can be given time to “integrate” coming from Crotone I think Berardi given time to integrate 1-2 seasons would yield much much better results than Messias.

You are just kind of grouping Berardi with Sensi because they both came from Sassuolo. Just because Sensi was a flop doesn’t mean Berardi has to be too. And to be honest Sensi was a flop because of his fragile injury record. He never got a chance at Inter due to that.

    3. “Junior Messias has both defensive and attacking mindset”

LOL. What a bunch of BS. He’s ALMOST as lazy to defend as Leao. The difference is that Leao has a contract and “is protected” so he’s “allowed” to skip defending but Messias if forced to defend (against his will) as Milan hasn’t decided to buy him yet.

      1. Truth is considering how well Messias Jr is able to help with defending, I think he should play in the middle as AM. He’s definitely better than Diaz and would be a better option than trying Kessie or Krunic as AM.

Brahim Diaz at 22mil is a rip off. Send him back to Real Madrid.

  3. Sorry I know I am in the minority here, but I think Alexis has more upside than Junior. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of giving anybody time to “learn” on the pitch. Plays with way more energy than Leao, who mopes around after losing the ball or going down. And as to Leao, agree he has talent but part of his success should be given to the fact that Theo is behind him, Leao is rarely marked by two when Theo pushes higher up.

  4. Mesias is a great winger and trust me he can do well for 3,4 more seasons he just need time. He has pace and great dribbling skills.. stop talking crap because he gives his all.. it doesn’t mean if a player had a bad day is not a good player stop criticizing

  5. I’ve cooled on Barardi over the last few months. 40 mil is too much. If Sassuolo are willing to be more reasonable 20-25 mil plus bonuses then I think he’s worth it otherwise save the money for an attacking MF. With a proper creative force in the middle both Saelemaekers and Mesias will have better form.

  6. This is depend on sassoulo asking price too. If they keep asking 35-50m euro there is no way AC Milan willing to pay them like that. And sassoulo rejected loan with option to buy, they want straight cash . Berardi only worth 20-30m euro in my personal opinion, more than that are over price
