GdS: Milan to watch €10m-rated Empoli forward first hand as interest gathers steam

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are admirers of Nedim Bajrami and they will get a chance to watch the playmaker up close when Empoli arrive for tomorrow’s game at San Siro.

La Gazzetta dello Sport provide some background on Bajrami and his first season in Serie A, which he started with 3 goals contributions (1G, 2A) in his first 3 games. Now he has 6 goals and 3 assists in his 26 league appearances, and he has ended up on the watch list of several big names, including Milan.

The Rossoneri are on the hunt for a playmaker who can provide some creativity, linking the midfield with the wings and the centre-forward, but also a player who offers a goal threat. Samu Castillejo will leave and Junior Messias may not yet remain, while Brahim Diaz needs some help.

Bajrami won promotion to Serie A with Dionisi (now at Sassuolo) last season and was a big catalyst in their promotion amassing 8 assists and 7 goals in 39 league and cup games. This year he is on 9 goals and 5 assists 29 games across all competitions, scoring against Roma, Lazio and Milan in the process.

The 23-year-old is in the top 10 of dribblers in Serie A: Leao is at the top with 67, Bajrami is tenth with 38, which is better than Malinovskyi, Dybala and Diaz. He also has 48 key passes (8th), and he can play as a mezzala in 4-3-3.

He is a natural right-footer but he also plays well with his weaker left. In addition, he is a specialist on penalties having scored nine out of nine in his career. Bajrami has a contract until 2024 and is in his first season as a starter in Serie A, and given Empoli paid €2.5m back in 2019 they would take around €10m now.
