Romelu Lukaku has offered his services to AC Milan. So, the management are doing their due diligence and evaluating the possibility.

For months now, there’s been nothing but talk of Milan’s next striker. Numerous names have been floated, and in the last few hours a new one has emerged: Romelu Lukaku. He has been at odds with Napoli for some time and has reportedly offered himself to the club for next season.

The Belgian is eager to bounce back after a year heavily hampered by a serious injury that kept him out for several months. The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter man barely saw the pitch even after his return, and thus the need to find a new position for next year arose.

Weighing things up

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) report that Lukaku is not at the top of the list because there are other names they wish to explore first, yet his attributes could be very useful to Massimiliano Allegri.

The coach is looking for a physical centre-forward capable of playing both in a 3-5-2 formation – thus partnering with another striker – and in a 4-3-3 where he is a more natural striker.

The Belgian possesses these qualities and also knows Italian football very well, so he wouldn’t even need time to settle in. Added to this is the fact that he would gladly return to Milan, a city he feels strongly connected to beyond football.

However, there are three major unknowns that make things difficult. First, there are many doubts about his physical condition after a season with more time spent in the treatment room than on the pitch.

Furthermore, his current €8m net per year salary at Napoli is completely above Milan’s limits. A significant reduction in the Belgian striker’s salary would therefore be necessary to even begin discussions.

Finally, there is also a personal issue to resolve: his less than idyllic relationship with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the currently a senior advisor at RedBird and one of the key players within AC Milan’s operations.

  1. Toss a coin.

He’s had his big season so I’d be surprised if he had another.

I wouldn’t. They need guaranteed goals.

  2. No, law of diminishing returns as set in for him. We need striker for growth inclination. Not a strike that next season you deem him too old.

  3. Gyokeres, Sorloth, Kean and Mateta are all better options.

Sorloth and Mateta are the cheapest options and will cost less than 50m together. Milan can buy both players.

But Milan should just go all out for Oshimen. 70-75m should be enough. Sell Nkunku and Gimenez.

    1. Mateta? Come on. 70-75 won’t be enough for VO, ADL is not insane to lower the price, especially not
for the competition and a direct rival from Serie A. Man, are you joking right now when you talk about Gyokeres? What gave you the impression he is (up) for sale? Do you even now how much Arsenal paid to get him? Nkunku and Gimenez combined wouldn’t be enough for neither Osimhen or Gyokeres, try to be more realistic.
