CM: From Okafor to Vitor Roque – the names on Milan’s list of striker targets

By Oliver Fisher -

The AC Milan management know that a centre-forward is needed this summer and there are a number of names on their list, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com report that Mateo Retegui is one of them. The 23-year-old Argentine is owned by Boca Juniors but is doing very well on loan at Tigre with 19 goals in 2022 and already six goals in six games in the new season. Before he exploded, Boca were asking for €10m but now it is likely to be €15m.

Then there is Vitor Roque of Athletico Paranaense who was the top scorer of the U20 South American Championship in Colombia where Milan sent scouts to follow some young talents, and the reports on the boy were all positive. However, he is already worth €40m+ while Barcelona, Chelsea and PSG are also keen.

Noah Okafor of Red Bull Salzburg remains on the list too, and the Rossoneri management held talks about a month ago over the Swiss forward. Milan are keen to make an offer in the summer, and have asked to be advised if any clubs from the Premier League show interest.

Finally, there is Gianluca Scamacca who is struggling a bit at West Ham. A couple of years ago the Rossoneri had the possibility of signing him for €25m but then nothing came of it and then the Hammers came along and paid €42m, with 10% of the proceeds from a future resale owed to Sassuolo.

This means an offer close to €45m will be needed for West Ham to part with him and at the moment it seems unlikely that Milan will come forward with such an amount.

  1. Scamacca is the best option out of all of the ones mention above!Roque already said he wants to go to Barça,Okafor is more of a winger then pure nº9,Scamacca we can work one paid loan with obligation to buy he knowns the league is italian is play style is really similar to Ibra play style and counts has homegrown player wich is good for uefa list of players!

  2. Love Scamacca, but then again we’re late if we decided to sign him now. That might change if West Ham goes to relegation.

  3. €45m is laughable. No way we are paying this much for anyone and no way anyone is paying this much for Scamacca.

    On the other front:
    Roque >> Okafor > Retegui

  4. If West Ham gets relegated we can get Scamacca on a discount price or at least on loan.
The way Milan plays he would be the obvious choice out of all the names in this article

  5. Well I certainly don’t see how Scamacca’s price has gone up.

In reality if West Ham is going to sell it will be for less. The question is how much less and can relegation help us.

Scamacca hasn’t struggled as much as he hasn’t been given starts. That indicates that he does fit into Moyes’ plans.

    1. I am the president of the Scamacca fan club so I am biased.

But you’re talking about a kid from a weak league, with no real defensive prowess, and expecting him to lead the line for Milan next year?

Hojlund did virtually nothing in his first 6 months and we may not have seen anything if Zapata had not been injured all year. There is something to be said for for being able to quietly develop absent any pressure. Vlahovic scored 6 goals in his first 40 Serie A appearances.

The issue for Milan is that there is no reasonable basis to expect that we can cheat our way to finding a 20 goal a year striker (which is what we need). It costs money.

It seems to me that the fans generally get too easily spooked by the devil they know. Players struggle in Italy because it is a very difficult, technical and tactical league. The managers of the top 7 or 8 teams also tend to be extremely conservative with young players.
