A journalist has claimed that AC Milan are expected to sign a Kosovo international during the summer transfer window.
According to what Arlind Sadiku has written on his Facebook profile, Milan could be welcoming its first ever Kosovan player ahead of the 2023-24 season.
He wrote: “San Siro is expected to be the ‘second home’ of one of the players of the Kosovo national team from next summer.”
So who could it be? Looking down the list of names, the one that stands out the most is Edon Zhegrova of Lille, who is predominantly a right winger but can also play on the left, two roles that Milan might need reinforcing this summer.
The 24-year-old was actually born in Germany but does represent Kosovo at international level, and so far this season he has amassed 4 goals and 5 assists in 24 appearances across Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, with 1,194 minutes of playing time.
There is another reason that Zhegrova seems a likely candidate. RMC Sport reported Lille have agreed to pay €19.6m to Sporting CP out of the €20.6m owed for Rafael Leao’s fine, while Milan would then immediately reimburse the Ligue 1 side up to 90%, or around €18m.
While there were then theories about that being because of a virtually guaranteed future capital gain, there were some journalists – such as Felice Raimondo – who suggested a Lille player valued at on or around €18m could join Milan in exchange for them paying that amount of the fine.
Transfermarkt has the valuation of Zhegrova at €7m which is obviously quite far below the €18m figure, but with their best players like Jonathan David out of reach it could well be a match.
If he works out like our other buys from Lille, I’ll be happy but his numbers are not too impressive.
