AC Milan now seem willing to invest in the signing of Santiago Gimenez regardless of whether they make a sale, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
After Kyle Walker flew in for a medical ahead of joining on an initial loan move, the gossip columns quickly became populated with the news that Milan are trying to sign Gimenez from Feyenoord in January.
The Mexico international netted a brace against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last night as part of a memorable 3-0 win. While he seemed to suggest he is staying with his celebration, his comments after the game then re-opened the door.
Di Marzio spoke live on Sky during his ‘Calciomercato – L’Originale’ segment and as part of his round-up he was asked if there have been any developments on the Gimenez-Milan front during Thursday.
“If Feyenoord are open [to selling], Milan will make the investment, regardless of whether Emerson leaves. The Rossoneri have sent Pimenta, the player’s agent, to scout,” he said (via MilanNews).
“It’s an open story, there hasn’t been a definitive no from Holland. The player would like to leave immediately, there is pressure from the agent but Feyenoord are a tough nut to crack. We’ll see if they give up in the next few days or not.”
As a reminder, the proposed deal to sell Emerson Royal to Galatasaray (or the Premier League) is now off the table because the full-back has suffered a serious muscle injury that will keep him out for 2-3 months.
Now Raspadori – RLC swap, sign Frendrup and we have a team…
That is actually a good swap. Raspadori can play AM.
LW, SS and partially SS… he’s kinda like Italian Morata but shorter lmao
Why do people always assume other clubs will take our trash for their good players? “Take this player for RLC”, “take that player and give them Origi”…
Exactly. If a player is trash and not playing well, you can’t expect to swap him for a good one, without a significant cash component. It’s why you have to do everything to offload players like Emerson or Origi when you get the chance.
Likewise when someone is playing super well but you think they don’t have outstanding potential, you have to sell as their value is inflated. Eg tomori , I like him but he’s not a 50mn center back, but there was a chance we could have sold him for close to that… now he’s a reserve we’d be lucky to receive 30mn
Gabbia, Pavlovic and Thiaw are not 50m center backs either. Milan are in the CL, and fighting to get to 4th in the standings. We are going to need all 4 of our CB’s and they will need to be rotated/rested. Why would we sell one? Center back is not our problem. LB and RB are. Walker solves one problem and maybe offers cover for the center as well. But selling Tomori would not be a good move.
Sorry maybe I didn’t explain my point. It’s not about Tomori specifically, agreed we’re low on CBs.
It’s more that if we are going to sell a player, if we deem them not world class potential, then sell them at their peak value don’t wait until they are just a backup and sell them for peanuts. Could easily have said the same about say RLC, he went through a purple patch scoring a few goals, we could have offloaded him back to EPL for a nice profit. Instead now he’s 5th choice we will probably sell him for a loss.
So true!
Raspadori can be good , but I think Atlanta sell him only for huge money. According transfermarket his price is around 35m€, that means Atalanta would ask something around 50m€ especially for Italian teams…
Raspadori plays for napoli. Maybe your getting mixed up with retegui?
You probably mean Napoli. I was never a fan of Raspadori – always found him very arrogant and selfish in front of goal.
I still believe in Loftus-Cheek. I think he can be a game-changer. His First Games under pioli really impressed me. Lets hope the coach can get him in form and he stays fit.
He’s the most un-technical midfielder that has graced this game… 2 left feet, huge body that he can’t even use properly… buff English Andrea Poli basically
Even when RLC was scoring goals, his midfield play was awful. He is not young, he is what he is and that is, not good enough
Agree with the first part not the second..
When we signed Loftus cheek I liked it. But I have lost faith in him. When he is on the field he don’t want the ball. He hides. He has a big body but he can’t use it to win battles. He is not a game changer.
I hope we push and get this deal done. We are in dire need of a striker who can score.
We will see about that if they actually do so.
He’s good though, but Gyokeres is the one I would do everything to sign.
70 million.
Pay in instalments of 35m in two transfer windows.
Strafezza of como is better than raspadori
Will Jimenez get the service though??? We need midfield quality and depth.
He’ll get the service – from our two strikers…
$100 says they’ve waited too long and can’t get this done. Red Bird has no clue what they’re doing. This is admitting 75 % of your summer plans were garbage. Why buy the club if you can’t afford to invest into it. I’d rather have the Chelsea owner. He knows nothing about football but at least he spends.
There’s a very big “if Feyenoord are open to selling” caveat there…… they won’t be.
People talking about RLC as if he was born in 2006. Guys, if he was actually good we all would have known about that fact for a good while now.
If we can’t afford Santi, maybe we should sign Ricardo Pepi. Why? Because he’s in better rank club, he’s cheaper, taller, younger, physically better and maybe better in scoring and he’s American (Yank welcome!). But we should notice most is his willing to move, and that point goes to Santi, bc he want to move to better club ffs!
Please don’t get Santi, this will be another dissapointment like we saw many in the past.
He can’t handle SerieA. Dutch league is too easy, gives the wrong impession.
To get a striker is a priority and we lack dept at the midfield
Sergio has to work magic with the ones we have Musah is capable Raphael should work harder cos high wages Tiji and Yusuf must rest and the rest he should work on individually tactically Pep style they should learn how to play out of their comfort zones. Real Madrid did play without a striker for a while, and it worked.
Basically, what I’m trying to say is that with the players we have should try to be versatile instead of playing in the same position all the time a football player should use both his legs and be decisive when playing. I know crazy right, but it will cause confusion to the opponents and in this must be vital in training
Arguably our best player for the last year came from the Dutch league.
True, and to be honost he suprised me. Never thaught he would be this important
I haven’t really commented on this matter much. I’d love to have someone prolific with potential up front but my doubts remain, is January really a month to make such significant investment?
To spend 40 millions on someone in January and expect him to start banging regulary when he just came from a different league with so many differences (style of football, language, culture etc.) is quite a risk. I’d much rather see them go for Gimenez or someone similar in the summer when he’ll have full preseason with his new teammates and coach to settle in. I’d also consider Lucca for the rooster.
I think Jovic can be an asset if given opportunity for the time being. Against Juventus he brought different energy and showed a lot in those few minutes on the field.
In summer we will have more competition with other club, therefore the price could rise up. So sooner is better.
Sign Santi now and allow him to com in the summer
Because the price will change in the summer and other clubs will pay better
Even assuming Giménez is a great player, even assuming he will somehow adapt quickly, our biggest problem is the lack of depth in the midfield.
A great striker without great service isn’t worth that much (see the entire Manchester City currently for reference) and in our worst games this season, we saw how much our midfield is a liability. Bennacer and Musah are rotating with one another so they can’t replace either Fofana or Reijnders, and they currently aren’t that great anyways (and it’s only a matter of time before Bennacer’s next injury).
A solution might be to immediately switch to a 4-4-2 thus having 4 midfielders for 2 positions and Giménez as one of the attackers, but the 4-4-2 requires both midfielders to be defensive and Reijnders isn’t that. Also if Conceição, the man who preaches the 4-4-2, doesn’t want to go for it this season, there must be a reason.
You know you’re talking to me, who is one of the most critical person here about lack of proper and quality midfielders since summer of 2023 🙂
