Milan Women captain Asllani hints at summer exit: “I’m evaluating the situation”

AC Milan Women’s captain Kosovare Asllani could be in her final season with the club after admitting that her future with the Rossonere is uncertain.

Milan Women might undergo something of a summer revolution, with quite a few current players and staff walking out the door. One of the players that might depart is midfielder and captain Asllani.

In a recent interview with Fotbollskanalen, the Swedish skipper was asked about her future with the Rossonere. Although her contract with Milan ends this summer, she was cryptic with her answer.

“It’s a current topic. I’m on an expiring contract after all. I’m evaluating the situation, but it’s not something I will bring up now,” Asllani stated.

When asked if anything has been decided just yet, she responded: “No, nothing is official.”

Instead, Asllani’s focus at the moment is playing a full 90 minutes for her country during the upcoming qualifiers for the Women’s Euros. Sweden will take on England at Wembley this Friday at 21:00 CEST.

However, if Asllani does decide to leave Milan, she will have plenty of suitors from abroad. Several American clubs have declared their interest in her. Among the interested parties for the Swede’s services are the NWSL’s San Diego Wave and Kansas City Current. Asllani has familiarity with the American top flight, as she had a brief stint with the Chicago Red Stars back in 2010.

The two teams also have a few Swedish players among their ranks, most notably Hanna Glas for Kansas City, and Sofia Jakobsson and Hanna Lundkvist for San Diego. Asllani’s Blågult teammates might have to do some convincing to get their compatriot to join their respective teams and it remains to be seen if she even wants to leave Milan.

There have been rumblings around the Vismara from the people attending the matches that she is likely to leave this summer, but, as Asllani herself stated, nothing is certain at the moment.

Serie A Femminile has just started an international break. Once it resumes, Milan will take on Napoli in the Poule Salvezza at the Vismara. Despite being in the lower section of the table, Milan’s 17-point lead over Napoli in the relegation play-off spot means Davide Corti’s side are playing for pride. Kick-off against Napoli will be at 15:00 CEST on April 14.
