TMW: The background on Milan’s previous agreement with Leao and when updates are expected

By Oliver Fisher -

Rafael Leao’s renewal with AC Milan continues to be a puzzle but there are developments expected before the break for the World Cup, a report claims.

TMW write that the Rossoneri management met with the lawyer Ted Dimvula to discuss a possible agreement, without putting any offer on the table, and Paolo Maldini publicly admitted to being confident things get done.

One thing is certain: Leao wants to stay at Milan and he would be willing to sign a renewal worth €7m net per season fixed, but the Milan management are looking to pay €6m plus bonuses. There would have been no problems if there were no change of agent as the talks with Jorge Mendes were going well, but he no longer has the power of attorney.

Milan had found an agreement in February at around €4m per year, but then Leao asked for more and the €19.5m fine owed to Sporting CP complicated things, as did the change of agent that took everyone by surprise.

Now news is expected by November 15, i.e. before the World Cup. Otherwise a sale would not be excluded, perhaps not in January but almost certainly in June – 12 months from the deadline – when the asking price cannot be €120m.

  1. If he said he will resign for 7M why are we offering 6M? Lol. Just give him the 7M and be done. He’s earned it and will be worth double his current valuation in another 3 years. Sound investment. You cannot sell your best player BEFORE he even enters his prime and BEFORE this team really challenges Europes best. What message would that send??? We have a chance to build an amazing team capable of challenging for CL in a few more seasons IF we keep this core together

    1. I’ve been saying that for over a year now and you’re absolutely right. Give him the money now because the. Ore he accomplishes the more he’s going to request. The liner we wait the more unlikely we are to keep him. I think it’s a great president to set by paying Leao 7m. It’s actually a steal of a salary if you take a look at what juice and inter pay some of their players. It also says if you want more than 7m playing for this team then you better be better than Leao or else it’s not happening. Give him the 7 and pay his fine. You will more than make up for it through merch, wins, trophies , and revenue. The longer we wait the closer the premier league gets.

  2. I guess it’s a no-brainer decision: the guy is already one the 10 or at least 20 best footballers in activity, with plenty of potential to become simply THE best. It’s imperative to keep him.
