GdS: Milan’s succession plan for Giroud involves him mentoring summer addition

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are planning to hand Olivier Giroud a new contract but they already have a strategy in mind for the attacking department, a report claims.

At the moment Milan boss Stefano Pioli is left leaning heavily on Giroud who will turn 37 this year, because Zlatan Ibrahimovic has not played a competitive game for eight months and Divock Origi’s start to life at the club has not gone to plan.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the plan of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara is as follows: in the future Giroud will hand over the baton to a younger striker who will arrive at Milanello in the summer, and the Frenchman will be able to mentor him before he takes the starting spot.

The news comes after the Daily Mail reported this morning that Milan are keen on signing Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun who has scored 14 league goals for Stade Reims this season and has been monitored in the past.

  1. Wait wait, you really think that kid will join Milan to be 2nd striker behind the career benchwarmer Giroud and learn from him even though they are 0% similar? Balogun is about 20 cm shorter and about 17 times faster than Giroud, not even similar. He is horrible in the air and good with the ball in the feet, opposite to what Giroud is.

In any case, Milan can’t buy him, he will cost over 30M in the summer, Arsenal won’t gift him to Milan like Milan expects lately…

    1. That’s why Santi Gimenez is a good option. He’s 21, Europa league top scorer, tall, good in aereal duels, sets up his teammates and is a great finisher
