After a busy start in the transfer market, Milan are now focusing on signing a striker, or two. In today’s edition of CdS, Mirabelli spoke about the club’s situation.
Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, Mirabelli said that: “I’ve worked for AC Milan for 100 days now but I still can’t realise what’s happened, but I came here at the end of a long journey, like that of a student who graduates from elementary school.
“I’ve been around the world and I’ve studied the players by cataloguing them with an innovative scouting system. Am I king of the market? The definition of ‘market king’ is something I don’t like because I didn’t do it all alone. Then again, we have not completed the work yet.
“The team is an open construction site that will not close even on September 1, because at that point we will have to support Montella. He is a great manager, but he is not a wizard and does not have the magic wand. He will need the support of the company and we’ll make sure it’s there.
“Our team is young and will grow in time thanks to two leaders like Bonucci and Biglia.”
On the situation regarding a new striker: “It is true that we are looking for a striker, but we are not in a hurry and we will take the right one for us. Belotti? There are great players that we all like and he is one of those. The €100m price tag? Things that you like can’t always be done.
“Kalinic second choice? For journalists, he may perhaps be considered a second choice. We do not have first, second or third choices. For us, they are all first choices and we want to combine technical and financial discourse. Even Kalinic as Belotti is a great player, the difference lies in age. Renato Sanches? I know him well from his time at Benfica. He is a great player and with Bayern the reports are great. We are in an assessment phase of what we have to do, but I do not rule out that this is an operation we can think of.”
