Massimiliano Mirabelli has released an official statement confirming his departure from AC Milan.
There had been widespread reports that Mirabelli had been let go of his duties by Elliott Management, and it became clear he would not continue when he did not travel with the squad to the USA for preseason.
His statement reads: “Dear Milanisti,
“When it comes time to say thank you, it means that something had begun, then it ends. It is never easy, especially when you think back to the endless work days dedicated to a single and declared goal, the good of Milan.
“I would like to start from here, from this huge world called Milan and from the boundless passion that surrounds it. I would like to start with you: from your love, from your anxieties and your dreams, from the joys and fears, from all that you have transmitted to me in these difficult but splendid 15 months of work, of which I am proud.
“Thank you. With you, not me, but the whole Milan team has never been alone. I met you on the streets and in the cities where the Diavolo went to play, I felt your own emotions, I was impressed by the affection you showed me with your banners and releases and I still get excited if I think back to that night of ‘Olympic after the defeat in the Italian Cup with Juventus. We had lost, but you had won.
“I tried with all my strength to give you the best possible Milan, because you Milanese deserve to return to the roof of Europe and the world. You’ll come back, I’m sure. In these 15 months we have done many operations: purchases for a long-term project, very complicated renewals but brought to port and a whole series of sales that allowed the club to reduce liabilities. This Milan, allow me, is a creature that I feel very much mine.
First of all I want to say thank you to Mr. Gattuso, who I strongly wanted to lead the team because he united us not only the blood of our own land, but above all the smell of the field.
“We have struggled and suffered together on every single ball, as in his style, and I wish him all the fortunes of this world, because Rino deserves all of them.
Embrace the whole team, even all the teams of Milan: from Captain Bonucci to the smallest of the Rossoneri talents, and a big good luck to the girls of Carolina Morace, in their first season of Milan.

“I believed in each of them and I tried to build a concrete and lasting project: I am sure that the Devil who will come will have solid foundations and ambitious eyes.
Thanks to the staff of Mr. Gattuso and all the employees and collaborators of Milanello, from the first to the last ring of a Rossoneri chain that has worked tirelessly with me and accompanied me on this fantastic journey.
“Thanks to the employees of Casa Milan, with whom I shared all the emotions of this adventure and all the members of the Vismara that among technicians, collaborators, consultants and observers, with their work have given strength and hope to many guys.
Thanks to all the journalists, to all my staff and to those who believed in me and gave me this enormous professional opportunity: serving Milan for me was an honor.
“Finally, thanks to my family, an inexhaustible source of love, especially in the most difficult moments.
“Men pass, Milan remains.”
