As AC Milan fans continue to sweat about the future of Tijjani Reijnders, the mixed messages from the Monza game have not helped the angst.
As Calciomercato.com report, the 2-0 win over Monza was a pointless game played in a toxic climate. Matteo Gabbia and Joao Felix’s goals do not alleviate the feelings of the fans – the Curva Sud above all – who staged a walk-out on 15 minutes after arranging themselves in a ‘GO HOME’ message.

Reijnders: The last dance?
In such a sad context, the only attention was on Reijnders, the true emotional protagonist of the evening. At the final whistle, visibly moved, the Dutch midfielder hugged all his teammates and to the fans who remained in the stands it seemed like a farewell.
Tijjani is at the center of a negotiation between Milan and Manchester City, it is no secret. Since the news came out in the press, the Rossoneri fans have shown all their concern on social media, at Casa Milan with banners and also at San Siro.
Yesterday’s insignificant match against Monza risks being remembered as the last dance in Rossoneri for the former AZ Alkmaar man. As he walked around the field with his son Xavien after the players had gone back to the dressing room, this feeling was only compounded.

Mixed messaging
In a pre-match interview for DAZN, Furlani responded to a specific question about the possible sale of Reijnders and decided to try and dictate a firm stance.
“I would focus on what we need to strengthen ourselves, because there have also been mistakes in the planning of the squad. Given how we are managed, sacrifices will not be necessary,” he said. It felt like punting the issue down the line.
On the one hand, Furlani did not give any certainties about the best midfielder in Serie A staying, but on the other he reiterated that the club can afford to keep the big names in the squad even after being excluded from European competitions.
In a few days we will understand if the strategy will be applied to Reijnders or if they will be remembered as simple phrases of circumstance. Manchester City have increased the pressure and want Tijjani for the Club World Cup, with a €75-80m bid expected to be enough.

This is not on Reijnders.
If he doesn’t want to go, he doesn’t go. That simple. He has a contract for five more years. But if he’s being offered a pay rise for a top paying UCL contender, then he’s going to take it understandably.
I’m just saying, as someone with experience of both places, I’d rather live in Milan!

Such a great passer of the ball. Said this a while ago, he’d be very well suited to City or any pass-based build up team (the other I can think of is Barca). That he scored so many with both Fonseca and Sarge is quite remarkable. Hope they don’t sell him, with the right coach he can perform even better
Bring Conte. Keep Reijnders and reinforce the team. You have the money. Don’t be dense and try to reinvent the wheel, AGAIN.
