ML: Milan believe Kjaer can mentor his own heir – the most likely candidate is in Serie A

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan know that they have a prized asset on their hands in Simon Kjaer who could play a role in mentoring his own replacement, a report claims.

Kjaer has been nothing short of exceptional since his arrival from Sevilla initially on loan back in January before that became a permanent deal for a figure around the €3.5m mark, but by the end of his current contract he will be 33 (in 2022).

According to MilanLive, the Rossoneri believe that Kjaer also to can act as ‘mother hen’ for the players who could be signed in the near future, as the club’s plan is to sign a new defender in the January window who is young and with high potential.

The favourite at the moment is Matteo Lovato of Hellas Verona, a player who is already showing all his qualities in the league having played every game this season and could form the future bedrock of Milan’s defence along with Matteo Gabbia.

Milan think that Kjaer can help Lovato to grow and mature until he can be considered ready to take over, just as the Dane is already doing with Gabbia.
