MN: Six players expected to leave Milan before window closes – the names

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the key topics during the last couple of weeks of the transfer window will be offloading players that Paulo Fonseca does not consider to be part of his plans.

According to MilanNews, the Milan management will make the most of these last 13 days of the transfer window to try and seize any opportunities to put the finishing touches to the squad, but also to ensure there is a maximum of 25 players available to Fonseca.

Having already offloaded Jan-Carlo Simic, Lorenzo Colombo and Daniel Maldini to Anderlecht, Empoli and Monza respectively, Milan are now aiming to secure exits for six more players that the former Lille coach does not seem to have much use for.

Yacine Adli, Pierre Kalulu, Fode Ballo-Touré, Divock Origi, Marco Nasti and Tommaso Pobega are the names expected to leave before September, with the latter’s agents reportedly pushing together with the club to find a solution for their client.

In this list of six names, the closest to leaving Milan seems to be Nasti, who is about to join Cremonese. For the others, however, there is still a lot of work to do and it could be that things go right down to the final few days.

  1. Ambitious if we can offload them for anywhere near their perceived market value.

I doubt Origi can be sold , might need to pay him to terminate his contract. Adli is arguably a €12-14mn player but I think we’d accept €10mn since he’s unlikely to get much gametime so would just rot on the bench losing value. Similar with Pobega.

Kalulu I like and I’m not sure we have enough cover at CB but he’s closest to leaving for any sensible transfer. Nasti is going for close to zero fee, same with Ballo Toure

    1. I’d just use Adli/Pobega for midfield negotiations. I think Ricci/Locatelli will balance out the team.

      Regista: Bennacer; sub: Ricci/Locatelli
sup for Regista: Fofana; sub: RLC, Musah
N10: Reijnders; sub: Pulisic (RLC, Bennacer and Liberali if neccessary)

PS obviously Pulisic is starting RW, but with Saelemakers in rotation he’s gonna be the depth player for N10

      1. Sometimes i wonder the soft spot you have for these Mediocre low average players (Ricci/Locatelli).

You keep calling their names for Milan to sign them.
We don’t need any of these boys.
Please don’t come here with your sentiment of Italian players.

They are not even good compared to what we have in Milan.

        1. both better than RLC, they again are the natural subs for Bennacer, cause who is regista then? Reijnders?

just because Reijnders can doesn’t mean he should be there… as seen during Euros even friendlies, his role should be CAM. Pulisic as RW currently is better than Chukwueze.

These 2 give you exactly that. They are also, yes, Italian which helps us a lot. just calling them mediocre without backing up with anything else is just childish. they have been branded here as such but no one explains why.

Emerson and Pavlovic are high tier? players in other teams might not shine, but in our squad they tend to do twice as much.

  2. I like you guys but better for you left this club and play some else.Look how good is De kettelare and salemakers when left.
This owner and scouts will destroy everything what Maldini build up for years,so better go now when you can find good clubs.
Milan go down 2 steps with Fonseca and Ibra and owners

    1. If that is true why are we able to sign players? If our project and all that is soooooooooooooooooooooo bad why do players sign for Ac Milan and the new murican ownership and managment?

Folk like you said we wont be able to sign players after Maldini goes. Said Nobody will want to stay at the club. Said we are going towards relegation.
Its kinda not happening the way folk said it, man

      1. I actually agree with you here. We are actually looking in better shape. The first game is just the first. It’s not indicative and no reason to have a meltdown.

        1. i do my share of gloom and doom but guys like him are just pathetic. no real argument for any they write, just maldini good – new owners bad..

Think if the new guys work out we might have a very strong squad.

    2. Man, it’s time to let it go because what you’ve been wishing for is not happening. Enough with your “the owner will destroy everything that Maldini built”. You said they were gonna sell every good players we have. They were not gonna spend money on the team. None of what you said happened. Stop with your hate.
Just move on from your nonsense.

    1. I agree with you Luigi. I’m a big fan of Kalulu. Quick, aggressive and clearly clever.

I think he is only 5’10”. Tomorri is not good in the air. (Nor is Kalulu for that matter) So I wonder if his leaving is about height and arial ability.

      1. Given the other aspects of these two players, both good and bad, I do think that this is playing a role. One of the issues with our defense in the past 4-5 seasons has been height and physicality. Then again, if you have no clue where you’re supposed to be (positioning) or if you have poor control of your feet (technique), as Thiaw does, then height and physicality are irrelevant.

        1. The height and physicality was not an issue when we won the Scudetto conceding 31 goals mostly with Tomori and Kalulu at CB keeping 11 clean sheets in the last 17 games.

Tomori and Kalulu should’ve been our established CB pairing with Gabbia as cover.

But instead the club had to faff about with Thiaw.

Admittedly injuries and form also hampered their progress, but a lack of focus didn’t help either.

We had one player to replace from our Scudetto winning squad – Kessie.

We still haven’t replaced him but we’ve been busy in nearly every other area.

And this is why Milan have not had an established CB pairing in 20 years, or an established CF for consecutive seasons.

      2. Kalulu is clumsy, has no anticipation and lacks strenght. We should have sold him after that half-a-season he appeared to look ok, while we could have gain maximum value out of him. So we should have done with Pobega after the return spell from Torino, as well as Adli.
I think excluding them from the squad gets their value way down, showing thatvwe are prepared to let them go for peanuts.
We should have sold Thiaw this transfer window while there are still teams who thinks he is worth something. He is slow, clumsy anx no anticipation as well, which I’ve said since the 1st day he joined

I think the rest of our team is pretty well, something I haven’t said a long time ago. With these 7 potential departures we might bring 2-3 quality subs (not necesserily in this transfer window) as well as a few promotions from Futuro, Milan looks the most complete squad in the League.

      3. Baresi, was not the tallest of defenders, but he could hold his own. Cannavaro too was considered short..Kalulu can make up for lack of height with his leap and improving his reading of the game. its up to him actually.
he can stay and fight for his shirt or leave for Juve’s bench..

        1. Otamendi, Martinez (man utd), the kid in Barca, thiaw plays badly at LCB, while Tomori plays better at LCB, ,but the coach play d them in opposite way.
Form is also temporary, class is permanent, he played so well last season till he got injured in the Dortmund game, but fans would be fans. Excuses would be made for Theo, Leao and Pulisic (who gifted the ball to fans in the stand, rather than pass to the nearest player in a better position to score)

      4. I wouldn’t call Kalulu clever, I actually think that concentration is his real problem. His RB genes make him always push up too high when defending.

      1. This. In the end this is the right answer and what I was thinking after watching Thiaw’s performance yesterday. I was fine moving Kalulu on over Thiaw, because I honestly don’t think he that good and I was willing to give Thiaw another chance given his physical characteristics, but after seeing another Thiaw debacle in the very first game of the season my conclusion is that neither of them are up to the task. So hopefully Pavlo gets fit quick so he and Tomori become the starting pair, with Gabbia the first option off the bench, and the other two can live on the bench unles there are injuries or suspensions. Then next summer we move both Kalulu and Thiaw on and bring in a better CB.

    1. More like sub Thiaw for Kalulu, we still need some depth and Kalulu is better than Thiaw.
I wouldn’t mind offloading Saelemakers but the coach seems to like him. I hope to never see him play as a fullback at least.

      1. Salad did have some rough moments last night at fullback, and I just don’t think he belongs in defense, and certainly not as a LB. He certainly looked rusty as a fullback, not really playing in that role for a few seasons. Plus, the dude is right footed. He should play as a RW or inverted LW, and then maybe RB as an emergency. That’s it. But given how we’re using Puli as an AM this season and given his energy and pressing, I think there is space for him as a backup winger, as Okafor is the only other one currently.

  3. We also need an a actual LB to backup Theo. I’m over using RBs, Salad, or rando X for this. It’s hurting us. Since we have all these outgoing players and seemingly some funds in reserve, any “opportunity buy” should be a proper LB.

    1. The problem is, even if we sold all those mentioned in the article we still cant sign any non homegrown players. Because the way our squad is now, we have to sell 3 non homegrown (plus Origi and Ballo Toure) to be able to register all players in competition…

So we can only sign more homegrown player, unless we do additional sale after those players.

  4. Luigi said it all. Thiaw no hate but not better than kalulu. Don’t any day underate kalulu. That’s a serious machine plus can perform various roles. I wish for better of Milan to keep kalulu, okafor then sell origi, balo traore, pobega brecianin e thiaw. If Ismael leaves, then I’ll get a replacement in that mid. I like Rios , he has that guts but the 2 non eu slot are done. So get kone, or another taget may Romeo lavia if Chelsea would need a loan with option. The chiesa for salaemeka. That I’ll be pretty cool.

  5. LOL I didn’t even realise that Ballo-Touré, Divock Origi, and Marco Nasti, weren’t included in the current Milan squad on Wikipedia, and nor were Mattia Liberali or Francesco Camarda!

That brings our squad size to over 30!

    Ok here we go…

    Mike Maignan
    Marco Sportiello
    Lorenzo Torriani
    Ballo-Touré SELL/LOAN/TERMINATE
    Davide Calabria
    Pierre Kalulu
    Théo Hernandez
    Álex Jiménez
    Emerson Royal UNDO???
    Fikayo Tomori
    Alessandro Florenzi SELL/LOAN/TERMINATE
    Malick Thiaw SELL/LOAN/TERMINATE
    Strahinja Pavlović
    Filippo Terracciano LOAN
    Matteo Gabbia
    Ismaël Bennacer
    Ruben Loftus-Cheek
    Tijjani Reijnders
    Kevin Zeroli
    Tommaso Pobega SELL/LOAN
    Alexis Saelemaekers
    Yunus Musah SELL
    Yacine Adli SELL
    Mattia Liberali
    Álvaro Morata
    Luka Jović SELL
    Rafael Leão
    Christian Pulisic
    Noah Okafor
    Francesco Camarda
    Samuel Chukwueze SELL
    Divock Origi SELL
    Marco Nasti SELL

This would bring the squad down to 23 inclusive of Zeroli, Liberali and Camarda.

Any bigger those three won’t get games.

  6. Sorry need to add Fofana which takes it up to 24….

    Basically we’d have:

5 x FBs inclusive of Kalulu, Jiménez and Royal (1 too many)
4 x CBs inclusive of Kalulu
5 x CMs inclusive of Fofana plus Zeroli
A few attacking mids….RLC, Zeroli, Liberali, Pulisic
A few wingers…Liberali, Pulisic, Saelemaekers, Leao and Okafor
A few options upfront…Morata, Okafor, Carmada.

This would ensure a reasonable amount of games across the season.

  7. Hahaha! wishes, horses, beggars….hmm! My Prayer: Lord have your way. We humbly acknowledge and recognize that man’s ways is not in his hands but you oh Lord.May you impact the management, with the requisite wisdom, knowledge and understanding to handle our extra baggage to the good of the club, the players involved and above all to your glory. and honor. Thank you, Father.Amen and Amen.
