MN: Aston Villa defender still on Milan’s list but deal seems unlikely

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan are keeping the name of Clement Lenglet on their list of potential defensive signings for this month but a deal for him seems very unlikely at this stage, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, the French defender would be quite hard for Milan to sign this month but he has not been ruled out entirely.

It is clear that Milan need one more defender to ensure they have enough to deal with the second half of the season when the injuries to key players are factored in.

Matteo Gabbia returning from his loan at Villarreal has helped to steady the situation, but he alone is not enough to fix the problem.

Lenglet is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Barcelona, and that is the crux of why it is a hard deal to pull off.

Geoffrey Moncada is a fan of Lenglet and is keeping him on the list, but Milan would need him to be recalled from Villa, before then striking a deal with Barcelona. The fact he has a very big salary means that would be hard to do.

Also, he has started to get more minutes in the last month under Unai Emery. Milan are linked with plenty of other defenders that are more attainable.

  1. Gabbia was MOTM against Udine. We can make it work until Tomori/Thiaw come back. THeo can also slot in if Kjaer doesn’t have the legs.

  2. Bro they only gonna spend 5,5 m for the rest of the season hoping we will stay in top 4 wow this management is very broke we want that change of the CEO Again it seems

  3. It’s the scattergun moneyball approach. You base signings on what you have capped your spend at, not ability and what is correct. Then you wonder why you have average to useless players on long contracts that you can’t get rid of…the worst part is when you realise that for that extra bit of initial capital expenditure you could have landed a world beater, but you spent more buying two average joes through moneyball
