MN: Atalanta plan to speak with Milan about De Ketelaere – the two possible paths

By Ben Dixon -

For the third consecutive summer in a row, it looks like Charles De Ketelaere could be a large focus for AC Milan after reports have suggested that there could be a ‘crossroads’ between Atlanta and the Rossoneri over his loan agreement.

When purchasing the Belgian star, his former club, Club Brugge, were a tough negotiator, which is understandable, given the talent possessed by the attacker. However, Milan eventually got a deal over the line, and the youngster became that summer’s biggest transaction.

A similar trend followed into his season, though. His season, much like his transfer, was a difficult one, and whilst there were signs shown, the Rossoneri opted to allow him to move on loan in the summer of 2023 with the option of a future sale.

Now, we have reached a point where that sale is being discussed, and the story from La Dea in recent months has been clear. They would like to keep De Ketelaere. However, as reported by Milan News, they want a discount.

The loan agreement stated that Atalanta could pay €23 million plus bonuses at the end of the season, with Milan also having a sell-on clause in the deal. However, the report suggests that there is a ‘crossroads’ between the clubs, given the Bergamo side wants a discount, so they plan to speak to the Rossoneri’s management about their willingness to change the price.

Imaginably, the Diavolo will not go lower, given some already see it as a steal, but with key positions needed in the mercato, they could be tempted.

    1. Scalvini is probably valued north of 50M by them so it can’t work. Also he just got a big ligament injury and won’t be back before november, so it’s not worth it anymore.
Ederson can be a good deal, although I’d prefer Hojbjerg from Tottenham.

      1. Scalvini’s big ligament injury, we just get the reason to lower his price, Ederson good DM or..
just keep CDK he deserved 2nd chance, loan Musah/ Chuck/ Oka to free spot for CDK

        1. U want to loan 50m+ worth of players we bought last year for one returning player who needs to learna whole new system on top.of that?

        2. ligament injuries are sometimes game over for some players, and some others struggle to regain their prior-injury form. IMO we should forget about Scalvini.

          1. he never get serious injury before, i think he can be back on track considering his age,
i said again, it’s just if we get lower price

        3. But they already got their 1 year shock out of their system (which is what I believe CDK had). Their second year should be better

  1. What the **** Atalanta??? You sold Hojlund way overpriced, but now you asked for discount for a player who has considerably had great season with you, and with price lower than what Milan spent? Please dont be cheap. Let just our beloved Jerry being cheap, coz that is his thing.

  2. If they don’t want to pay 23mil, which is already a low price, then just keep him and if the new coach doesn’t want him, sell him in a higher price. Considering last season, we can easily get 35mil from him.

  3. They could ask around clubs in EPL, I’m certain there are few who would be interestedin CdK. Just to show Atalanta, we can easily sell him somewhere else.

  4. They already had a discounted price. If they want to discuss anything, try to bring the likes of Scamacca, Koopmeiners on the table first.

    1. Getting Koopmeiners would be a dream deal. Not sure he is the midfielder with the defensive characteristics we need, but he is certainly better and more versatile that most of ours.

      1. I believe he’ll go to Juve sooner or later. Juve has this habit to buy the best talent(s) on the league. While us, we always look towards other leagues as a benchmark.

  5. We did the same thing when we bought Tomori, so why is that bad thing if a team is trying to lower the price? They care about their finances, exactly like we do. Now if we lower our price, that would be a bad thing. I think he could have a nice role in Fonseca system of play.

  6. Going lower would have to be declared as a loss rather than a break even so chances of that are next to none I’d say; there’d be a big enough market to sell him on or use him in Milan’s squad with a new manager anyway, so surely this is a non-story.

  7. I would love some sort of a CDK/Ederson operation. Two birds, one stone. Maybe they can throw in B. Toure too.

  8. He is now worth double the agreed price. If they dont want to pay bring him back, he is ready to play for milan. If they dont want to pay cash, do exchange with Scalvini as we need proper young Italian CB.
