MN: Background on legal dispute that has accompanied Leao’s potential Milan renewal

By Euan Burns -

It seems that resolutions could finally be found in the many different aspects of Rafael Leao’s potential AC Milan contract renewal, a report claims.

As reported by Milan News, one of the major obstacles Milan have faced whilst trying to renew Leao’s contract could soon be out of the way thanks to Lille and Sporting CP.

Lille have exhausted various legal avenues and have decided that it makes the most sense for them to pay the €22 million plus interest that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordered.

Sporting have continued to try and get the €45 million that they originally felt they should have been paid in compensation for Leao terminating his contract with the club in 2018 following a training ground incident involving fans.

They are now expected to accept the €22 million to bring the matter to a close rather than continue fighting for a figure that they are likely to never receive.
