MN: Brahim continues his red-hot form for Milan – Calhanoglu has already been forgotten

By Oliver Fisher -

Brahim Diaz started what is technically his second spell at AC Milan in the right way by being the match-winner during Monday night’s 1-0 win over Sampdoria.

The Spaniard hit a cut-back from Davide Calabria first time across goal and it squirmed under Audero’s gloves, and MilanNews writes how Brahim has already begun to fill the heavy No.10 shirt that was left vacant after Hakan Calhanoglu’s decision to leave.

Diaz was decisive for AC Milan’s Champions League qualification in last season’s finale, and started this new season with a crucial goal. He took on the role of starting attacking midfielder by putting in a dynamic performance, and the Turkey international seems to be already forgotten.

Stefano Pioli is giving him great confidence, but in the meantime Paolo Maldini and his collaborators are still looking for an attacking midfielder to be placed behind the centre-forward, so Brahim doesn’t have too much expectation on his shoulders.

With his appearance the other day, Brahim reached 40 appearances with Milan. He is now at 8 goals scored, of which 3 came in the last 5 games played, which means that the player is growing and adapting.

  1. No disrespect to Diaz but its too early since we played only one match to judge. Hakan’s set pieces, assist and shots were good; granted he was inconsistent.

  2. If we had played Diaz more than the ingrate Hakan last season, Milan would have won the scudetto.

Milan indulge Hakan by playing him instead of Diaz just so that he should renew his contract.

Ultimately, Hakan left Milan because he knows Diaz is better than him and hakan will become a back up player.

This is why he moved to Inter

  3. Well, the only thing Hakan was good at is corners. He really mastered it even being pretty mediocre on everything else. Atm we don’t have a player able to assist from corners.
