Davide Calabria will join Malick Thiaw on the sidelines for tonight’s game against Venezia as the full-back will not be available due to injury, a report claims.

As MilanNews reports, Paulo Fonseca will have to do without Calabria for tonight’s game against the newly-promoted side because the  Milan captain is recovering from a knock to his right leg.

He joins Thiaw in the treatment room, given that the German centre-back is still struggling with the sprained ankle he suffered in training before the Lazio match and will not recover in time.

There are also some long-term absentees that the Milan coach has to deal with, the most recent being Ismael Bennacer who suffered a muscle injury while training with Algeria which has ended up being a serious one.

He returned to Italy for scans earlier in the week and the diagnosis from various different sources is that he will miss the rest of the year because he has completely torn his calf, with surgery possibly needed.

In addition to Bennacer, Alessandro Florenzi and Marco Sportiello are out with knee and hand issues that will keep them out for a while longer yet, as both underwent an operation on their respective problems.

  1. Sportiello, Thiaw, Florenzi, Benny now Calabria. Bit of the old dejavu, a?
Morata is back so that’s something. Now we’re waiting for okafor to get sidelined or maybe Mike.

    1. In all fairness Bennacer was injured on international duty and Sportiello in a hotel so half of the player injuries had nothing to do with the Milan staff or training. That said, hopefully the old trend doesn’t continue this year.

      1. Well to be fair lots of the injuries last year was also happening under circumstances out of Milans hands- I think flyingturtles approach is that it is not much improved compared to last year if we look at how many injuries we already had at this early stage of the season. Think we have already had around 6 injuries by now so if we continue like this then we easily will equal last seasons injury woes.
