MN: Cardinale’s mission is to grow Milan on and off the field – the numbers are encouraging

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale wants to increase the value of the club after his fund RedBird Capital acquired the Rossoneri from Elliott Management.

MilanNews reports that Cardinale is always very clear in his statements about Milan as he wants to increase the technical and commercial value of the club and he reiterated this concept yesterday at the Leaders Week, a conference for top world sports managers.

“I don’t think that there should be a three to one differential between media revenues in the Premier League, Liga, and Serie A. I don’t take a club without looking at the ecosystem in which and I see enormous built-in value for both AC Milan and Serie A,” he said.

“I think our activities in building AC Milan should have a spin-off effect in helping to lift everything in Serie A.” The challenge for Cardinale is not only to ensure that Milan keep growing on and off the field, but also to drag the value of the league closer to that of the Premier League.

In terms of the on-field metrics, Pioli’s team play a modern and fun style of football with a clear technical-tactical project which is built around talented young players purchased at affordable prices and helped to grow.

In a financial sense, the financial statements of Inter and Juventus showed record losses of over hundreds of millions of euros, while the Rossoneri registered a loss of €66.5m compared to €94m in the previous year. Revenues are €297.7m – an increase of 14% compared to 2020-21.
