MN: Big confidence boost as Milan clinched Rio Ave-esque win against Empoli

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan secured the three points in dramatic fashion against Empoli last night and thus got a much-needed confidence boost ahead of a tough run of games. The win reminded many fans of another clash, a report highlights.

As highlighted by MilanNews, last night’s success was rather similar to the one against Rio Ave in the Europa League qualifiers. In the pouring rain in Portugal, Milan came out on top after what seemed like an endless penalty shootout (it ended 8-9 after 13 penalties each).

Even though we didn’t witness a penalty shootout yesterday, the game was decided in the very last minutes and also in the rain at Castellani. Milan knew it wouldn’t be an easy game, but they perhaps didn’t expect such an outcome, just like they thought ahead of the Rio Ave clash.

Wins like these can give a lot of confidence and the Rossoneri will need it ahead of the double clash against Chelsea, as well as the Juve game at the weekend. Wins don’t always have to be pretty either; the most important thing is the feeling you exit the clash with.
