MN: Conti and Caldara to return from respective loan spells – their future seems to be written

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will welcome defensive duo Andrea Conti and Mattia Caldara back after their loan, but it will likely be a short stay, according to a report.

Conti joined Parma on loan with an option to buy that became an obligation if they achieved Serie A survival, but they were instead relegated, while Caldara returned to Atalanta in January 2020 on an 18-month loan with option to buy.

MilanNews writes how the pair have had a difficult time in recent seasons due to a combination of physical problems and bad form. The future for Caldara and Conti seems to already be written, and although they will be part of the preseason retreat their agents are at work to find new clubs.

Milan will try to monetise from their sales to amortise costs and reuse the money for other operations. Focusing on regrets does not help either the club or the individuals as Milan, Conti and Caldara now appear set for a future where all parties are separate.

  1. Dumb choice. Conti I get he’s done. But if we can get Caldara back to his best he’s among the nest out there. You see it all the time big injury and takes a few seasons to get back but if he can would be an amazing asset.
